Now, Jackson O’Leary is ready to take on New York.
The attackman from Westfield, N.J., has started a post-grad year at Trinity-Pawling.
It comes after he was named to the New Jersey all-state team and a first-team All-Union Division honoree this past spring. He was also selected to the New Jersey State all-star game.
O’Leary hopes his tuneup for Trinity-Pawling goes as well as his final varsity season in the Garden City.
Then, it will be off to St. John’s.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound righty committed to the Red Storm this past weekend.
O’Leary, a crease attackman, has a hard shot and moves well off the ball.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jackson on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I just loved the campus of St. John’s right when I stepped on it and also the coaching staff was extremely cool and it seemed like it would be a great fit. I also really liked the fact that they are in the Big East and I would be playing top competition every week.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Monmouth, St.Joe’s and Manhattan. I had visited all of those schools and also visited Hobart and Robert Morris.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My size and hard outside shot. I would also say that I work well off ball.
I don’t really have style of play. I just play at my own pace and look for matchups that I can capitalize on.
What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
My dodging.
Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My in-town coaches, Richard Werner and Ivan Cohen, along with my high school coach, Marc Silbergeld, and Patrick Tuohy. Also my Leading edge coach Tim Roy and my current coach Nic Bell.
What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this past summer?
I played on Leading Edge Elite and I participated in Blue Chip 225, Peak 200 and Champ Camp.
