When it comes to the transition game, you’d be hard-pressed to find a high school player in the tristate area who thrives in it as much as Malcolm Flynn.

The longstick midfielder from Half Hollow Hills West (N.Y.) is an agile and athletic player.

Flynn, who is 5-foot-9, 155 pounds, was described as a “groundball machine” by Joe Lombardi when he broke the news of the sophomore’s commitment to Ohio State at Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.

Flynn was selected as the top rising sophomore defender at Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip Camp.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Malcolm on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I look forward to  being part of the whole college expereice at Ohio State. Ohio State has a deep tradition of educating the student athlete as well as excellent academics. I feel this school will also prepare for my life after lacrosse.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Johns Hopkins, Georgetwon, University Of Massachusetts, Syracuse and Villanova.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My speed, aggression and ability to get on a ball carrier very quickly are my greatest strengths. I am excellent at creating turnovers and transition from defense to offense.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I need to continue working on keeping in constant communication with my teammates in team defense situations.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
First and foremost, my father is a tremendous role model to me. He has taught me how to be a man. He has always been there for me and has been supporting me since I started playing lacrosse.  I would also have to recognize my high school varsity lacrosse coach, Coach (Nils) Haugen.  He has great knowledge of the game and I look forward to learning more from him in upcoming years.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this past summer?
Team Hills and Long Island Express. I also attended Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip, where I was selected as the top defender at the camp. I also attended the NSCLA showcase, Tristate and many other college recruiting camps.
