Jack Margiotta is a physical athlete with good stick skills and leadership abilities.

The kind of player who can anchor a defense.

The Trinity-Pawling (N.Y.) senior three-sport standout hopes to get that chance for the newly launched Division I lax program at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.

A native of Randolph, N.J., the 6-foot Margiotta has a tremendous upside.

Margiotta is the latest member of his family to play D-I lax. His brother, Tim, played defense at Sacred Heart, where he graduated this past spring.

Jack Margiotta is a returning starter and team captain Trinity-Pawling, who played well for the Pride in wins against Deerfield Academy, Avon Old Farms and Taft this past string.

“He is a strong left-handed defensemen who possesses an outstanding stick and excels in the clearing game,” Trinity-Pawling coach Nic Bell said.

Jack is a starting linebacker and captain on the Pride’s varsity football team and also plays hockey.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Jack on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I visited Mercer twice before I met with (Head) Coach (Kyle) Hannan. I was impressed with the Engineering program, the campus, especially the athletic facilities. After meeting Coach Hannan and the players, I knew it was a perfect fit.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited St. Joe’s, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Vermont.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I like to play a physical game.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I would like to improve my footwork and speed.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My brother, Tim, has the best work ethic of any player I know. I’ve learned a lot from him.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this past summer?
I’ve played for Patriot Lacrosse in New Jersey for eight years. This summer I attended the Prep School Showcase, NSCLA Champions Cup, MVP Camp, Mid-Summer Classic and Jersey Shoot Out.
