Andrew Duffy knows all about the demands and rewards of being a college athlete.

That’s a rare trait for a high school senior.

But the John Jay-Cross River (N.Y.) midfielder is in a unique position.

As you’ll soon learn, all three of his siblings played sports at the collegiate level.

Andrew will be continuing that tradition.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound righty has decided on Division III power Cortland State.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Duffy on his choice.

What were the main factors in your decision?
One of the factors was the education Cortland has to offer was the perfect fit for me. Also, the reputation Cortland and (Head) Coach (Steve) Beville have on the lacrosse field is unmatched, they are always competing for D-III SUNYAC conference and National championships.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Dartmouth, Drexel, Marquette, Sacred Heart, Merrimack, Stevens Tech and Cortland. I visited Dartmouth, Drexel and Cortland.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I feel like my strengths are my shot and communication on the field, as well as moving off ball finding the openings in defenses.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I feel like I need to work on dodging and keeping my head up on offense, finding the open man.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Some of the biggest influences on me as a player had to be siblings, My sister Colleen played D-I field hockey, my brother Dan played lacrosse for Oneonta State, and my brother Kevin walked on to Ohio State lacrosse team as a goalie. They always pushed me to work hard and told me what improvements i needed to make as a player.

(John Jay Head) Coach Tim Schurr, (Assistant) Coach Geoff Nolan and Coach Sunho Lee — some of the best coaches around — really have had a huge impact on my growth as a player.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this past summer?
The past summers I played on Prime Time. I went to Blue Chip 225 elite, National Invitational 175 which were all great experiences.
