Boston University’s men’s lacrosse program is on first big winning streak.

Sure, the Terriers have not yet played an actual game since announcing in mid-February they would be launching a D-I program starting with the 2014 season.

But BU is sure making its mark in recruiting.

If you been reading here the last few weeks, you already know that. If you follow Twitter.com/joe_lombardi, you also know the Terriers have picked up even more commitments the last couple of days.

One of them was made by one of the top two-way midfielders in Fairfield County, Conn.

He’s Ridgefield senior Cal Dearth.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound righty  is an athletic player who also competes in soccer and swimming. He has good speed, a strong shot and superb field vision.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Cal on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I wanted the city/urban setting, the school and academics are great, and the idea of playing in a brand-new program is really exciting to me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered and visited Holy Cross, Lafayette, Franklin & Marshall, Wesleyan, Stevens and Washington College. They all had great things to offer.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are my speed, a hard shot and I think I see the field well.  My style is a solid two-way middie.  I like playing both defense and offense and I love the transition game.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I definitely want to dodge better and I always want to work on my off hand.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My youth coaches early on gave me every opportunity and (Ridgefield Head) Coach (Roy) Colsey and (Assistant) Coach (Tom) Galione have been major influences and supporters during my high school career.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I played for Team Superstar and attended Battle of the Hotbeds (all-star selection), Lehigh Laxfest, Bulldog Bash, and the Mid-Summer Classic.

Great kid, great player and a great selection by BU. One of the fastest players on the field no matter who the opponent is and very unselfish. Congrats to Cal…Well deserved!
