Danny O’Connell has all the things college coaches look for in a prototypical attackman.

Namely, size, stick skills and shooting ability. He’s also equally effective as a feeder as well as finisher.

Add a strong academic resume to the list, and it’s no wonder the 2012 Chaminade graduate will attend Villanova after a post-grad year at Westminster.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Danny on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Villanova is perfect fit for me academically and lacrosse wise. Villanova has one of the top Business schools in the country, also they have proven to be a top 15 team in the country.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering Dartmouth, Boston University, Tufts and Amherst.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player are being able to separate from my defender and feeding the open man. Also the ability to comfortably use both hands to shoot and feed.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
The area in my game I have been working to improve on is my shooting with pressure on me.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My dad has been the biggest influence on me. He played college lacrosse at Villanova. He coached me in PAL and taught me the right way to play the game.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this summer?
I played for the LI Sting this summer. I played at Hotbeds, Brine Shootout, TriState and Baltimore Summer Kickoff, where I made the all-star game. I also played at ECLC and made the all-star game there.
