Nick Haiduk was familiar with his eventual college destination, New York Tech, before the recruiting process even started for him.

That’s because of a family tie.

The Sachem North rising senior’s brother, Billy, played for NYIT, where he graduated in 2011. Like his younger brother, Billy also is an attackman.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Nick on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
My brother (attackman Billy Haiduk) graduated from NYIT in 2011. Attending NYIT has been my dream since the day my brother committed there. I think I would fit in great.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Eastern University and Adelphi  University.  However, NYIT was my first and only visit. I felt really comfortable with (NYIT Head) Coach (Bill) Dunn and it felt like home.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I see the field really well which is why I like to feed the ball.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I am always trying to improve all aspects of my game.  I am going to become more of a shooter next year.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My brother is my biggest influence.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this summer?
I was going to play for the Sachem North summer team and attend Bluechip. Unfortunately  I was injured and I am still recovering. I look forward to playing in the tournaments this fall.
