Brian Badgett can beat you in many ways.

A two-way midfielder with good speed and athleticism, the 5-foot-11, 160-pound rising senior from defending New York State Class B state champion Garden City is constantly battling for ground balls, and then often triggering transition opportunities after he gets them.

After returning for his senior year with the Trojans, Badgett has decided where his college years will be spent — at the brand-new Division I program at Boston University. Badget made a verbal commitment to BU this past week, as first reported at Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Brian on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose Boston University because it’s a great school and feels like a really good fit for me. Boston is a beautiful city and the surrounding schools offers a unique situation. The new program really attracted me, and I share (Head) Coach (Ryan) Polley’s enthusiasm. He made me feel at home right away.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was very interested in Furman, Middlebury and also visited Williams and Siena.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I feel that my greatest strength is my speed and being a team player on the field. I was a two-way midfielder this year for Garden City and felt that my defense was one of my fortes.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I can work on my off hand as well as becoming stronger to compete competitively at the Division I level.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My school coaches and summer coaches have been my biggest influences as a player.

(Garden City Head) Coach (Steve) Finnell really helped me mature as a player this year on Garden City. He helped improve my lacrosse IQ and help me become a better two-way midfielder.

Having the opportunity of practicing/playing with the my teammates at Garden City played a large role in my development as a player too. (Long Island Sting Head) Coach (Ken) Miller helped give me more confidence on the field. He really expanded my offensive ability and north-south dodging. Coach Miller helped guide me through the recruiting process, as well as Coach Finnell.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this summer?
I played for the Long Island Sting this summer for Coach Miller. I participated in the  Baltimore Kickoff, Tri-state and the Brine Shootout, making the all-star team at the Baltimore Kickoff.
