Rutgers has been making its mark on the tristate recruiting scene since Brian Brecht took over as Scarlet Knights’ head coach prior to this past season.

The commitment comes from one of the top attackmen in the Garden City.

He’s rising junior Jules Heningburg, who has good size (6-foot-2, 168), stick skills and athleticism.

Heningburg will be attending Seton Hall Prep this coming school year, transferring from Columbia High School, where he registered 57 points as a sophomore and was also was a member of the varsity basketball team.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Jules on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The academics Rutgers had to offer, the coaching staff, specifically Coach Brecht and (Assistant) Coach (Keith) Cromwell. Will Mangan, a Columbia graduate (who played midfield at Rutgers, graduating this past spring), influenced me a lot and is confident where Rutgers program is headed in the near future. My family friend Mike Terry and my mom and dad all helped me a lot in my final decision.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering a few schools including Delaware, Fairfield, Brown, Navy, Bryant, Towson, Bucknell, Colgate and High Point. It came down to Delaware, Navy and Rutgers as my final three. I visited Delaware, Fairfield, Brown, Bryant and Towson.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say my strengths as a player are my dodging, and being able to use both hands well in all aspects. My style of play is to work within the offense. I usually am the X attackman, so I try and get my teammates involved, and if I make a mistake, get it back the next play.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I would say being consistent and finishing around the cage with my right hand are what I have been working on most.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My high school coach, Brian Stromko, my friends Mike Terry and Nate Hill, my brother Dylan and my dad, and my youth coach, Steve Ramos, all helped me a lot in different ways.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I play on Leading Edge and we went to NSCLA, Crab City Challene, Jersey Shootout, King of the Hill and NSCLA Young Guns. I did not attend any showcase events, I was going to attend Super Sophs, but I had conflicts with my Leading Edge team. Most of the top college coaches were at the tournaments we attended, so I did not have any trouble getting exposure.
