If you’re looking for a prototype for playing defensive lacrosse, look no further than Nick Accardi.

The Rocky Point High School rising senior is a textbook defender adept at getting groundballs with outstanding stick skills and a high lacrosse IQ.

When it came time to select a college, this student of the game paid equal attention to his future as a student in the classroom in selecting the Air Force Academy.

To find out more, here’s a Q&A with Nick on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I was interested in the opportunities a military academy offered, including pursuing an Engineering degree and playing lacrosse at a high level.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered West Point, Villanova,Franklin & Marshall and Manhattan College. I visited West Point.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe myself as a textbook defenseman who is great at groundballs and likes to create transition.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
Always striving to improve my stick skills, speed, strength and conditioning.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Growing up as an adopted nephew of the Palasek family, I was given a lacrosse stick at birth.  My Long Island Express coach, John Lennon, and my high school coaches-(Head) Coach (Mike) Bowler and (Assistant) Coach (Nick) Nentwich. My mother, who drove me everywhere, and my aunt Cathy (Palasek), who is my biggest fan.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I played for the Long Island Express club team this summer. I played at the Brine Shootout,Tri State, Summer Slam and played in the Nassau vs Suffolk All Star game.
