The United States Under-19 team is still undefeated in World Games championships.

The U.S. held on for a 10-8 win over Canada today in the gold-medal game of the U-19 World Games in Turku, Finland, this past Saturday, July 21.

After the first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie, the U.S. went ahead 6-2 at the half and led 9-6 after three quarters.

Notre Dame-bound Matt Kavanagh, the former Chaminade High School star, had two goals two assist.  For an interview with Kavanagh, click here.

Former Smithtown West star Kyle Keenan and Hicksville High School grad Joey Leonard each had a goal and an assist.

Kavanagh, former Garden City defender Stephen Jahelka of Harvard University and former Gillman (Md.) standout Ryan Tucker of the University of Virginia were named to the all-tournament team.

Canada had outlasted the United States 11-9 in overtime in the round-robin portion this past Saturday, July 14. That July 14 win made Canada the first team to beat the United States in International U-19 play since sanctioned competition began in 1988. The U.S. also lost to Iroquois in round-robin action.
