There was plenty of drama in this year’s fourth annual Long Island Showcase, with both the Rising Senior and Rising Junior games being decided by one goal.

A goal by Casey Hickey on a sidearm shot from the perimeter in transition gave Suffolk a 6-5 overtime win in the Rising Senior game.

Needless to say, that performance led to increased recruiting interest in the Westhampton midfielder, who committed to Marist this week.

Here’s a Q&A with Casey on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision?
The biggest decision towards picking the right school for me was a good education but at the same time playing on a lacrosse team that is going to compete with the best.  Also Marist has a beautiful campus right on the Hudson River and it made it that much easier for my decision.

What other schools were you considering?
I was considering Air Force, Tampa, Marquette and Cortland.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player is coming off the dodge quick and shooting the ball.  I like to play a face pace of play.

How many schools were you in contact with after the Long Island Showcase last month?
I was in contact with six schools after the Long Island Showcase.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My family played a huge role in my development as a player.  They would always encourage me to do that much better.  Also my father is a role model to me.  He put the stick in my hand as soon as I could walk.
