Another rising senior star from the tristate region, Alex Corpolongo, has made his college choice.

The Somers midfield standout selected Stony Brook.

“ I just wanted to find a school that was a good fit for me athletically, academically and financially,” Corpolongo said. “Stony Brook is a great school that’s affordable for my family and I believe that Coach (Jim) Nagle is doing great things with the lacrosse team.  I want to be a part of that.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Corpolongo has good  size and stick stills and is effective at dodging from up top.

“I can also spread defenses because I have a strong outside shot,” he said. “I think my best strength as a player is my ability to dodge and score with either hand.

“Lately, I’ve just been working hard to get bigger, faster and stronger.  I’ve also been working on my righty and lefty on-the-run shots.”

Corpolongo, who also visited Rutgers and Siena and was also considering Brown and Dartmouth, cited several coaches he has worked with the last few years for helping him develop into a D-I commit.

“Well, first and foremost, I have to thank my (Somers) coaches Lew Janavey and Brian Dalton for all they’ve done for me.  I can’t even begin to explain how much they’ve helped me as coaches and mentors,” Corpolongo said. “Also, Roy Colsey and the rest of my coaches at Team Superstar have had an incredible influence on me as a player.  I also want to thank Barry Bocklet and Ernie Lupinacci at Team Moonlight and I want to thank Mike Solazzo for all he’s done for me.

“Last but not least I want to thank Tim Schurr for coaching me through the years and for helping me tremendously through my recruiting process.”
