It was a big day if you like the little guy.

In Section 1, No. 10 Mamaroneck defeated No 2 Suffern 10-9 in Class A and No. 18 Pleasantville, which beat No. 2 Dobbs Ferry in the first round, downed No. 7 Kennedy Catholic 15-6 in the Class C quarterfinals.

In Nassau County, Wantagh upended Manhasset 17-11 in te Nassau Class B semifinals to deny the Indians an appearance in the Section 11 finals for he first since 2000.

Now, to the FCIAC.

As we wrote in this space yesterday: “Considering the competitive nature of the FCIAC this year, nothing should come as too much of a surprise.”

Still, the fact nationally ranked and top-seeded Darien, which has just one loss (to Yorktown) and which has been to the FCIAC title game 13 times the last 16 years, lost to fourth-seeded Ridgefield 12-11 in the semifinals has to be considere da surprised. It was Darien’s first loss to an FCIAC team this season.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 New Canaan pulled away from second-seeded Wilton 11-6.

So we will have No. 3 vs. No. 4 in Friday’s title-game matchup back at Brien McMahon in Norwalk.

Here’s a look at the upcoming FCIAC final slate and Section 1 semifinal schedule:

FCIAC finals

Friday, May 25 at Brien McMahon High School, Norwalk

Elsewhere on Long Island, the day went according to form, with all the higher seeded teams surviving and advancing. (And, in fact, Wantagh was seeded No. 2, Manhasset No. 3.)

In action today, No. 2-seeded Syosset battles third-seeded Baldwin at 5:30 p.m. in the spotlight game of a Nassau County semifinal Section 8 tournament semifinal tripleheader.  That’s the Class A game today.

In Class B, the nation’s top-ranked team, No. 1-seeded Garden City, takes on fifth-seeded Long Beach at 8 p.m.

The day starts with a 3:30 p.m. Class C game between No. 2 Locust Valley and No. 3 Friends Academy.

The winners of today’s games play for the Nassau County class championships on Tuesday, May 29.

In girls lacrosse, in case you missed it yesterday, the Section 1 girls championship tripleheader, originally scheduled for today at Suffern Middle School Sports Complex, has been moved to Thursday, May 24 at Fox Lane High School in Bedford

Here’s the lineup of games for tomorrow:

Class C: Pearl River/Rye winner vs. Irvington/Byram Hills winner, 3 p.m.

Class A: North Rockland vs. Lakeland/Panas, 5 p.m.

Class B: Scarsdale/Fox Lane winner vs. Brewster/Yorktown winner, 7 p.m.

Finally, congrats to Ridgefield boys coach Roy Colsey, who informed his team he’s been elected to the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame after last night’s big win over Darien.

Colsey, a Yorktown grad who was a four-time All-American at Syracuse University, starred in both the MLL and NLL. He guided Ridgefield to the 2009 FCIAC title and 2011 state championship.

Pleasantville proves records & seeding are meaningless. Entering the playoffs 3-13 the Panthers have sent Dobbs 14-2 when they played & Kennedy 14-3 packing. It shows that all the Hulla-Ba-Lew on this blog about certain teams & their conference records were laughable. Especially that NYS Sportswriters Ranking of Dobbs… LOL
