Trinity-Pawling has been making some major noise on the national lacrosse season this season.

The Pride handed one of the nation’s top teams, Deerfield, an 8-7 overtime loss  on April 18.

“It was by far one of the greatest moments in my lacrosse career so far,” said Somers resident Taylor Miller, a senior defenseman/longstick midfielder for TP. “Winning a game like that is something that I will never forget.

“The biggest key to winning was taking Deerfield out of their comfort zone. We needed to have sustained offensive possessions.  It ultimately came down to playing near-perfect lacrosse for 48 minutes.”

Today, TP dealt Avon Old Farms only its second setback of the season in an 11-10 win.

The Pride has some big games coming up, including contests against Hotchkiss and Taft.

Miller, meanwhile, has plenty to look forward to beyond that. He will be continuing his lacrosse career at the Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.

Here are Taylor’s thoughts on his college choice:

What were the main factors in your decision?
Choosing RPI was an easy choice for me to make.  I knew I wanted to study Engineering at one of the best schools in the country as well as play lacrosse at a high level.  The RPI campus is beautiful, the athletic facilities are top rated, and Coach (Jim) Townsend and the coaching staff are great.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I knew I wanted to play lacrosse at the D-III level so that I could find a comfortable balance between school and lacrosse.  I took a very serious look at Williams, Middlebury, Union, Skidmore and Ohio Wesleyan.  I knew immediately that RPI was the perfect fit for me.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’d say my biggest strength is my field awareness.  I generally don’t get caught out of position.  I have pretty good stick skills when clearing but I especially like to ride.  I also really like man-down defense.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I’ve been working hard to be more aggressive on-ball.  I don’t throw a lot of checks, and have been working on doing this a lot more.  I have already seen a large improvement over the course of this year.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
The biggest influence on me as a player has definitely been my dad (Robert). He has pushed me to become a better and better player, and without him I definitely would not be where I am today. We have a new coach at Trinity Pawling this season, Nic Bell, who is very good and has pushed me to continue to improve my game.

Thanks for covering my Alma mater. That Deearfield win was something & by backing it up with the Avon win the kids proved it wasn’t a fluke.

  2. LaxFan says:

The win against DA was for sure a fluke considering TP’s 6-5 record…looks like DA has finally picked it up as they got it going against Hotchkiss.

    • Relax says:

Yeah that’s right! Hang your hat on the hotchkiss win! A team that had just lost to Avon(T-P beat Avon) Or maybe you should Hang your hat on the Brunswick OT win or the one goal Taft win. Check your facts before being wrong. Deerfield’s been overrated all year. No Fluke Here!
