Bethpage has been one of the biggest surprises in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region thus far this season.

The Golden Eagles have jumped out to an 8-0 start, led by the offense of Ryan Mahon and Jesse House and defense of Danny Chillianis.

Starting now, Bethpage will have a stretch of games in which it will be put to the test, with opponents including Manhasset and Hewlett, and today, Lynbrook, in a 4:30 p.m. game at Lynbrook.

Also among 15 games in Nassau, Cold Spring Harbor hosts Seaford at 7 p.m.

In Suffolk, Comsewogue, off to an 8-0 start (just like Bethpage), plays at Sayville (6-1) among eight games in the county.

The New Jersey slate is highlighted by three unbeaten teams facing stern challenges. Bridgewater-Raritan takes on Montgomery (4-2) and  Don Bosco faces Glen Ridge. Also of note, Lawrenceville (7-1) plays Seton Hall Prep (5-2).

Among the nine Section 1 games, Pelham hosts Scarsdale, North Rockland plays at Nyack, Ardsley visits Irvington and Dobbs Ferry hosts Hastings.

Greenwich hosts Stamford among eight FCIAC games.

In New York’s Ivy League, Hackley (4-1) hosts Poly Prep (3-2).

The girls slate is highlighted by a 6 p.m. Hudson Valley contest between 2011 state semifinalists Yorktown (4-3) and rival Lakeland/Panas (5-0-1).

Lakeland/Panas, which went 17-4 last season, defeated Yorktown 17-12 during the 2011 regular season.

In case you missed the news yesterday on Facebook, we’ve updated our Recruiting Review and Commitment Rundown to include the HS lax player known as “A-Rod,” Kennedy Catholic senior attackman Andrew Rodriguez, who has committed to the Division II program at the University of Tampa.

Needless to say, there are many other big games in the tristate region today. Scroll down to check the links to access the complete schedules. But if there’s a game you think we should have noted, by all means, be sure to post the info ASAP on the “Comments” portion of this thread.

The girls game at Yorktown will be a good one. Both these teams get after it whenever they play. I think Yorktown will pull out a much needed win after last weeks 1 goal loss at Fox Lane.
