During much of its 33-year history, the Empire State Games served as one of the premier recruiting showcases for college lacrosse coaches.

Since the Games were suspended the last two years because of budget cuts, those coaches have gone elsewhere to find future players.

But ESG could be three letters back on every college coach’s summer calendar once again next year.

The Rochester-based Empire State Sports Foundation, which last fall agreed to terms with the state to assume control of the event, has now set July 24-28, 2013 for the 2013 Games.

While arrangements are not yet complete, officials have unveiled a new logo. (Shown here.)

So what this years Empire Cup .Regional lax.tourney July in Syracuse??

This is good news. My son played on the last HV team that medaled and it was a very positive experience that opened the door for a tremendous school that he had not been engaged with prior to the games. The cameraderie among the boys from around Section 1 was a highlight of the experience- and playing the best kids from around the state (every Young Gun blue chipper from NY participated). I believe playing on the Empire team should take priority over a summer club team. My son had a spot on a club team if he didn’t make Empires but then opted out from the club team when he made the HV team. Also played teams from the Sound Shore league, the CT Chargers and the Iroquois U19 National team to prep for the games. Even the opening ceremony for the Games was memorable.

Glad your son had a good experience. That Iroquois game was a lot of fun.

Something a lot of people won’t experience

    Joe,

Yes can you give us any detailed info on this summer’s games? Heard that coaches were being asked to nominate a few kids from their teams for try-outs (to avoid hundreds of kids trying out)

    • SirLaxalot says:

The ESGames aren’t scheduled to return until 2013 – next summer. So what games are you referring to for this summer (2012) s-lacrosse?

  4. Lax n stuff says:

Definitely big news. Hope it’s back for good this time!

  5. Bob Brackett says:

Who will be coordinating the games? Are any of the HQ original state people involved .. Lisa, Ashley, Chuck Halligan??
