Does anyone else think this is an terrible idea, particuarly for 4th & 5th graders? Now instead of these players being exposed to every position on the field and equal playing time for all players you will have coaches trying to win “championships.” There is plenty of time for that later, if a tournament format is something desired than look no further than the CONNY Tournament held every year at Yale for all youth CONNY teams as a successful formula. Remember the last kid on a 4th grade team can turn out to be a great player if he is not discouraged at a young age.

These tourneys already exist in the summer where crazed out coaches/parents with dreams of glory scream for 40 minutes to ‘motivate’ the players. There games are generally a waste – the kids would be better off improving their skills in a fun and engaging way, then trying to win this tourney.

Also a little late to be announcing a tourney 30 days away.

Really enjoyed attending this tournament last year. It’s very well run, the kids really get into it and there’s great sportsmanship all around.
