The college season is up and running — and could be coming soon to a high school field near you.

There will be a couple of men’s college games scheduled for turf fields at high schools in the region in the next few weeks that will feature plenty of former varsity standouts from the area.

Here’s a look:

* St. Lawrence vs. Haverford – March 3, 1 p.m., at Bronxville (NY) High School. Both Division III squads have numerous players from the region.

* Merrimack vs. Rollins – March 22, 7 p.m. at Tiger Hollow Stadium, Ridgefield (CT) High School.  Former Ridgefield coach RJ Rossi is the head coach at Rollins. Former Tigers Jordan Tiger and Peter Schielke (captains of Ridgefield’s 2008 squad) are captains at Merrimack. Click here for more info and to purchase tickets.

In other college news, Ridgefield resident Jake Hyatt, a sophomore goaltender at Lafayette, was named Patriot League goaltender of the week after making 10 saves in a 10-5 win over Providence. Ridgefield High alum Mike Galione is a sophomore midfielder for the Leopards, whose roster features several other former area standouts.

Among the college games this weekend: Maryland takes on Georgetown on Friday, Hofstra plays at Princeton and Virginia hosts Stony Brook on Saturday, and on Sunday, Syracuse hosts Army and Penn State plays at Notre Dame.

Wonder why Pace doesn’t try to play a few games at White Plains HS with the turf and seating??

    • P&G says:

almost seems like Pace doesn’t care….what’s the deal there – wouldn’t be hard at a D2 level to be decent in the HV region, any insight…weren’t they really good years ago with Frank V. there? Which would suggest a strong coaching staff would yield a better product?
