No matter what happens in his senior year at Somers, or in the Division I collegiate career that will follow, Kevin Cousin will have a tough time topping what he did during a late-season stretch last season.
The attackman scored the game-winning goals in victories against two of the three 2010 Section 1 champions in the span of three days.
Cousin lifted the Tuskers past Lakeland/Panas 17-16 in overtime two days after doing the same thing against John Jay 9-8.
While the attackman will be hard-pressed to equal that feat, he’ll have plenty of chances to try both with the Tuskers this spring and with Siena College.
That’s where the 6-foot-2, 182-pound lefty with good size, stick skills and athleticism, who was quarterback for Somers’ football team this past season, will be playing at the next level.
As we reported earlier tonight on Twitter, Cousin verbally committed to the Saints after an official visit this past weekend.
Now, here are Kevin’s thoughts on his commitment and how Somers is shaping up for the upcoming season.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I felt like the school fit me really well academically and athletically. I thought that the size of the school was a perfect fit for me and everything about the school I loved. I knew right away driving home from Siena that it was the place for me.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Albany, Manhattan, Cortland and Catholic. I visited Manhattan, Cortland and Catholic.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think that my strengths as a player are that I can shoot the ball pretty well and I do a good job at finding the open man.
What areas of your game do you think you need to improve on?
I could definitely improve on my right-handed shot and work on new moves to get to the net.
How does this year’s Somers team look? What are the team’s strengths?
I think Somers should have another good year this year. I believe that the strengths of our team should be our defense and attack.
What players do you think will surprise some people?
My brother, (goaltender) Chris Cousin, and (Army-bound) Kevin Schurr, will be the leaders of our defense. They both are experienced players and both are very talented.
I think that Anthony Carpenter will surprise a lot of people, he is such a good dodger and can really finish. John Cegielski another attackmen is a great time-and-room shooter and will also surprise a lot of people.
From the midfield, I think that Alex Corpolongo, Mike Ashikari and Chris Marasco will all have big years. I also think that my other brother, Timothy Cousin, will open some eyes with his dodging and feeding ability along with Mark Fiocco, who has great speed and can really shoot on the run.
What games are you looking forward to the most?
We always look forward to playing John Jay, Yorktown, Lakeland and Ridgefield. They are always very exciting games and all those teams have such great players.

Sounds like a nice addition for a Siena team that year in, year out shows it is at the same level as Hopkins.
