There was a definite Ohio State feel in the hallways of Syosset High School today.

The fact that Ryan Hunter was wearing a red Ohio State T-shirt and Ohio State baseball cap hardly came as a surprise.

After all, the senior attackman committed to play at OSU back in October, 2010.

But the newest Brave to soon become a Buckeye joined Hunter in Ohio State attire.

And there was a good reason Liam Blohm was clad in a black Ohio State T-shirt and gray OSU sweat.

The sophomore longstick midfielder verbally committed to the Buckeyes last night, as you may have learned early this morning in our post on Twitter.

The 5-foot-11, 158-pound Blohm, who is shown alongside Hunter at right in the photo above, is a righty with exceptional stick skills and good athleticism.

Here’s a Q&A with Liam on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision?
(Head) Coach (Nick) Meyers and the entire staff there really made the difference. The entire package of the lacrosse program, its facilities, along with the outstanding university, and its opportunities were really exciting to me. I knew it was the right place. I am thankful for the opportunity to join the Buckeye family.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Maryland, Johns Hopkins , Cornell and Dartmouth.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I  feel like my strength’s are my ability to play at a very high energy level all the time with constant pressure. I like to play in transition and move the ball down the field as a pole. I try to play with a sense of urgency and unselfishness. I do whatever we have to do to win.

Who have been the biggest influences on you in your development as a player?
I cant say enough of my experience being part of Coach (John) Calabria’s program at Syosset High School. He does such a great job preparing us for every situation now and in the future. This would not be possible without him. He has been unreal.

My Long Island  Express coaches, Gene Isnardi and Jack Moran, have been another major influence on me with my summer team. They have such great knowledge of the game and what is necessary to perform and play at a high level . My dad has been a huge help to me as well.

What are your thoughts of being a future college teammate of current Syosset teammate Ryan Hunter?
It’s really exciting. Ryan is such a great player and leader for us. He really was a great help during this process. We are so excited to be able to continue our careers together.  He is going to have a great career at OSU. It’s awesome.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
Long Island Express Orange. We played in the Tri-State Tournament, as well as Jersey Shootout. We also competed at the U-15 Nationals in Orlando. I participated in  Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip as well as Long Island Showcase.

Nice player. Reminds me of Thomas Keith with the athleticism and stick skills who was a standout LSM for Syosset now at Cornell.

  3. 495 Lax says:

Syosset has had a few sophs commit early the last year or so with the goalie Feit verballing to Hop last year. As I recall he was one of the first sophs to commit nationally and now it’s commonplace. Amazing how things changed so much in such a short amount of time.
