Perhaps the marquee regular-season Section 1 game on the calendar has established its own tradition of late.

The Yorktown-John Jay game has become the traditional season opener for the Section 1 season.

And this coming season will be no different.

The teams will meet Saturday, March 31 at Yorktown’s Charlie Murphy Field at 1 p.m.

That’s among the highlights of Yorktown’s schedule, which was finalized today.

Also of note, the annual Charlie Murphy Cup game, vs. rival Lakeland/Panas, will be Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at Lakeland High School.

Yorktown will play traditional Long Island rivals Chaminade (April 10) and St. Anthony’s (May 12) on the road, and host its two longtime Connecticut rivals, Darien (April 24) and Wilton (May 15).

WHY would they play this big game in March!!! Come on guys get it together.

    Prediction Town 13- JJ 5

  2. just laxin says:

Because they will play later in the year again. Makes sense.

  3. Jaybird says:

Most definitely. Also, both teams play their non- section crossovers on Saturdays for travel purposes and because of that, this is the only open Saturday.

The real unfortunate thing would have been if this game were played on a weekday afternoon, which actually happened just a few years ago.

  4. Just a Fan says:

These will not be the teams we will see in May/June, but this is always a great matchup.

  5. GreenWhite says:

Is this so? LOL. Then who will be in the final? Do tell!!

    • Indian J says:

He means the teams will evolve and be more refined by late in the season and this might make for a better game. It’s difficult to tell how it will play out right now. Town has much more coming back and also improved a great deal at the very end of last season, even if they stumbled at times along the way.

  6. GreenWhite says:

Ah. I got it. That’s actually a good point. Thanks for the explanation.

  7. HV says:

The Yorktown – Somers game has 7:00pm on the website.

    Pre-Season Sect 1 Poll:

    1- Yorktown
    2- Mahopac
    3- Lake/Panas

    5- Bronxville
    6- Suffern
    7- Arlington
    8- Brewster
    9- Rye
    10- Somers

  8. gary g. says:

Brewster will surprise alot of people

  9. LaxFan says:
