Since Manhasset moved up to Class B prior to last season, the race for Class C supremacy in Nassau County — and Long Island, for that matter — has been interesting to watch.

Cold Spring Harbor outlasted the Friends Academy 8-7 to take the Section 8 Class C title last year. The Seahawks then fell to upstart Bayport-Blue Point 13-6 in the Long Island championship game.

How does CSH shape up heading into the 2012 season?

To get a read on just that, we now get the perspectives of junior midfielder Allen Winkoff, who committed to Ohio State early this past fall.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I have been working out with my teammates in the weight room as well as running winter track to get in good shape.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most?
We have a pretty solid schedule this season. The game that I am most looking forwards to is the Manhasset game. Manhasset is a rival of ours, and is usually an exciting game every time we play them.

What player or players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Justin McBride will be a great contribute to our team this season. He made the team as a freshman last spring, and going into his sophomore season he should be taking a solid role in our attack.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I believe this season, Cold Spring Harbor has a very well-balance team all around. We have weapons from both the attack and the midfield.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
This season, there are a few teams that can make a solid run for the Nassau County Class C championship. Some of the leading contending teams are Cold Spring Harbor, Friends Academy, Seaford and Locust Valley.

  1. Seahawk Nation says:

Good luck this year Allen. Bring home another title son!

  2. Traditions says:

Everything though with Manhasset in B that CSH would cost to the LI Class C title. Shows how competitive LI is that a team like Bayport Blue Point can emerge and win the title.

  3. Cameron says:

CSH is definitely the favorite. Friends had a nice run last year, but I don’t expect that to happen again.

  4. Islandia says:

enjoying these player preview stories. Keep ’em coming!

  5. OB Lax says:

Seems like with Set now in B, CSH will be the favorite more often than not.

  6. Matt says:

Watched CSH vs Freinds it was a dynamic game, the team for Friends is much younger than CSH I think next year CSH is going to lose most of their impactful players and Friends on the other hand has a lot of talent but that is younger, both offensively and defensively.

It will be an intersting rival to watch.
