When we reported here and on Twitter earlier today that another sophomore star from the tristate area, Hicksville’s Patrick McCormick, had committed to North Carolina, we told you we expected more commits from the Class of 2014 in the weeks and months to come.

Check that.

We should have said “in the hours to come.”

Tonight came word that a player we told you just last week was on the verge of committing,  Greenwich defenseman Jack Harrington, has made his choice.

Harrington, who was a target recruit of nearly all of the top programs in the nation, has verbally committed to Duke.

Be sure to check back for more from Jack.

Now though, here are some thoughts from his choice at GHS, Scott Bulkley.

“Jack is one of the smartest players I have ever coached,” Bulkley said. “His lacrosse IQ for his age is really unmatched.  Jack is a position defender who uses his size and strength to his advantage.  He is one of the hardest working and most coachable kids I have ever coached. ”

Bulkley said the 6-foot-3 Harrington reminds him of a player he coached while an assistant at his high school alma mater, current University of Maryland freshman Eric Parnon.

“I’ve been lucky enough to coach both young men and they have similar games,” Bulkley said. “Very athletic, long rangy checks, and good stick skills.  Jack can ball carrier just like Eric can.  I am looking for Jack to really anchor our young defense this year.”

Harrington performed well over the summer at Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip Camp for the Rising Sophomores at UMBC.

With the accelerated pace for verbal commitments, now on the clock are several other outstanding sophomores from such programs as Yorktown, among others. Be sure to check back for news on their decisions.

Before we sign off, just a quick reminder to vote in our latest poll.

The poll question is: Who do you think is the best high school team in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region heading into the 2012 season?

To vote, go to the right panel of this page. Then, just scroll past the “New Comments” and “Popular” tabs and click on “Poll,” and then cast your vote from the choices available, or write in your choice if it’s not listed.
