Sachem North has had no shortage of college-bound players of late.
The Flaming Arrows sent eight seniors from last spring’s team to college programs.
This coming season’s senior class has topped that, with nine commits.
Among them is Zach Dellecave.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound righty defenseman has committed to Dowling.
Dellecave, who is known for his aggressive and physical play, was recruited by a variety of Division I and II schools.
Here’s a Q&A with Zach on his commitment:
What were the main factors in your decision?
I was looking for a school close to home, and Dowling offered what I was looking for academically, as well as offering a rich and successful lacrosse tradition.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Assumption up in Massachusetts and Arcadia. Limestone, Hartford and Florida Southern were also serious considerations for me.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe my style of play as aggressive and physical. I think my strengths are my stick, and my team-oriented approach.
What areas of your game do you think you need to improve on?
I am always working on my footwork.
When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
Probably my sophomore year in high school.
What were some of the big summer showcase events you’ve competed in the last couple of years and how did you do?
Peak and Top 205 individually as well as all the team tournaments Coach Mauro brought us to each summer.
