The summer travel season has hit the midway point, and we are expecting a steady stream of recruiting commitment the next few weeks and months.

One happened today.

Tom Cirillo, one of the premier scorers in the Hudson Valley region, gave a verbal commitment to attend Division III national champion Salisbury.

Cirillo is a rising senior attackman/midfielder for coach Larry Petriccione at Eastchester.

Here’s a Q&A with Tom on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Salisbury?
There were many factors that went into this decision. Salisbury is a great school that has all the majors I’m considering. The whole program is awesome. Coach (Jim) Berkman is one of the greatest coaches. He’s the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history. Playing and learning under him will be an honor. I also want to win a championship. … I believe that playing at Salisbury will make that possible.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Air Force, Sacred Heart, Gettysburg and Catholic. I was also considering Rollins.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I need to get much bigger, stronger, faster and get better at every aspect of my game to be a contributor. Also, the game speed is different so that will take some getting used to.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
As a player at the varsity level, one thing I have always been able to do is find the back of the net. My style of play is that I play hard and am not afraid to hit because I come from a football background.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
Some of the older guys I looked up to and modeled my play after are, Dave Massi, Bryan Young and Jeff Young. One other player I always look up to is Giuseppe DeLuca. He is always the hardest working kid on the field.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
Last summer, I was playing on WestRock’s U18 team and I was only 15 years old. I played well and started getting some looks by coaches and figured I could play at the next level.
