Memorial Day Weekend has become synonymous with lacrosse

The last few years, so too has July 4th Weekend.

There is plenty going on lax-wise the new few days as the Under Armour All-America Classic and Underclass Games are set for Towson University in Maryland.

For rosters for the sixth annual All-America game, which will be broadcast at 8 p.m. on Saturday on ESPNU, click here.

There has been one development involving this game I can report. Though he is down at Towson with the team, John Jay standout attackman Mike Daniello is not expected to play in tomorrow’s game because his hamstring is not yet in game shape.

Garden City defenseman Steve Jahelka, who was hampered late in the season with an ankle injury, is also expected to be a scratch for the North team.

Still, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region will be well-represented in that game as well as the Underclass Tournament.

You can check out the rosters for all participating regions in the Underclassmen event, including Long Island, New England (which includes Connecticut), and Upstate New York by clicking here.

Play in the Underclass tourney started today at noon and ends Sunday, July 3 at 3:15 p.m. with the championship game. For the complete schedule, click here.

If he’s close to being ready, then Daniello is making the right decision to get set for the U-19 tryouts next week rather than playing in this exhibition. The honor is in being selected for the UA game; he’ll be on TV lots for the Blue Jays in seasons to come.

Too bad Case can’t play. Obviously he would have been a major + for NE.

Surprisingly, NE seems to be plugging along fine without him — they are 2-1 after upsetting Upstate and Philly, with the loss being a very respectable 11-9 defeat to LI. Given that last year’s team finished in last place, and this year’s roster featured a lot more players that I hadn’t heard much about, I am pretty surprised. If you throw in Matheis, perhaps this team is sitting at 3-0 w/ wins over perhaps the 3 other best teams in the Underclassmen games.

The big late comeback from two goals down with less than a minute to play against Team Philly to win 9-8 in OT has put the New Englanders into the playoff round where they will meet New Jersey at 10:45am. Good luck!

    I’m thinking:

    1) LI
    2) Balt
    3) Upper NYS
    4) Phil
    5) New England
    6) West

Very interested in seeing how the “West” team does. They have a number of D1 players and really want to prove the west coast is for real.

    wow: West vs. Balt 13-7

  4. Lax Novice says:

Boys final, New England vs. Long Island, going on now.

Girls final, Dist. of Columbia vs. Long Island, also in progress.

    Good luck to all.

    Championship Game UA Underclassman Game:

    LI vs. NE

LI has not lost since the games started. I like NE with guys like Britton (Darien) and Pickup (Rye/Deerfield).

My money is on Brian Pickup. He has the “Midas Touch” in big games.

  7. slacrosse says:

10-7 NE WINS–Wow!!! Congrats and particularly to the CT kids and Brian Pickup of RYE HIGH (Deerfield PG)!!

  8. Lax Novice says:

UA Underclassmen Boy’s Final, New England 10, Long Island 7.

    Congrats to all!

I don’t understand, how is it considered an “underclassmen” game if pg’s play in it?
