Senior midfielder Justin Mabus and Yorktown are hoping for their third straight win against neighboring rival Somers after dropping back-to-back games to the Tuskers in 2006 and ’07.

Some teams that hope to be heirs to the throne will be meeting head to head today.

In Suffolk County, Sachem North and Ward Melville, who both hope to unseat defending Section 11 Class A champ West Islip, go at it.

In Northern Westchester, Somers and Yorktown, two teams looking to topple 2010 Section 1 Class B titlist John Jay, face off.

The two leading teams right now in Section 1 Class B, Somers and Yorktown, meet at 7 p.m. at Charlie Murphy Field in Yorktown Heights.

Last year, Greenwich unseated defending 2009 FCIAC champ Ridgefield 8-5 en route to its unlikely run to the county crown. The teams met again in the CIAC playoffs and Greenwich won again 11-6. Ridgefield, which lost both those contests on its home turf, looks for revenge today at Greenwich.

  28. Conor STATESly says:

On my way to the Town v. Somers game and looking forward to some good tuesday night lax. Should be an interesting match up with two rival teams looking for important wins. Town will have to change some things up with the loss of Freshman Austin Fusco but I believe the intensity and skill of Town’s middies will makeup for the loss. Look for Junior D-Pole Gizim Lajqi to get a lot of time at longpole middie. Should be an interesting game.

    Town 9
    Somers 6

  29. Bobcat says:

BH over Greeley 11-10 on a goal in the last few seconds. Nice win for BH.

    • ????? says:

the refs in the game should be reported and suspended. i have never witnessed such awful calls in my entire life. i almost walked out of the stands because i felt like it wasn’t even a fair game….

      • 914 says:

as a spectator i would agree that these 2 refs were absolutely terrible. They were the same refs who blew multiple calls in the bh mmk game on saturday. but honestly i think that although they had a bunch of calls that lowered the play of the game, they were pretty crappy on both sides. i dont think they really favored one team, i just think they over interpreted the rules

      • The Ref's made them do it says:

?????, I guess you should have kept on walking because the Ref’s didnt cost HG the game. BH took the game from HG. HG couldn’t win a faceoff in the 2nd half, BH lowered their turnovers and just played better! Again!!

Those two ref’s made calls against both teams that could be questioned but I will say this for them they do not take any lip from players or coaches which keeps things under control which is what you expect from Refs.

  68. BigBadBear says:

seems to me we are getting a bit of separation at the top…with (guess who?) Y’town and JJ moving in front….

  69. Vinny Savastano says:

    Sectone – who are you?
An upset is when a team is favored and you beat them! You always got something to say and won’t put your name on it! We are trying to build a program and won’t stand for anyone with negativity! Thank you.

    • Doid23 says:

Seriously? “Won’t stand for anyone with negativity”? Nice win, but lighten up Francis.

    • sectone says:

You wouldn’t know me and I wouldn’t know you. I don’t think you understand how this works. You can’t control what people think or post. We are all entitled to our opinions. If you disagree with an opinion post something back or ignore it. This isn’t communist Russia.

There was no disrepect intended – I asked a question, and I actually received a thoughtful post back from cam.

      • lax says:

Have to go with sectone on this one; he was asking a legitimate question and remarking on what exactly constitutes an “upset”. Sheesh, talk about being thinskinned; indeed, lighten up or become a ref. The way the original was phrased it would be similar to saying the Mets “upset” the Nationals.

        • reeemy says:

It is not just that post it is all of sectone post are always a dig!on some team.

          • Old Rugger says:

Moriarity stop with the negative vibes. I believe Coach Savastano described what an upset is, and I doubt many people would argue the definition. Wappingers has beaten Haldane, Carmel, Kennedy (12-7) and North Salem (not the powers of Section 1) but not “Nobody” either. As they had won by 5 earlier in the season they were the “favorites” when the favorites lose it is an upset.
            End of story.

          • Doid23 says:

C’mon Old Rugger, you know that’s not all that Vinny was saying. Secone’s post was appropriate, as was his response.

I do like the Kelly’s Heroes quote though.

          • lax says:

To keep beating a dead horse, I son’t really think you can say “end of story”. An upset, in my and I would venture to say most people’s opinions occurs when you beat a top and heavily favored opponent. If they beat JJ, Somers, or probably some 30 other opponents then yes, you can call it an upset but when two middling or lower programs play one another it can hardly be called an “upset” despite the fact that one was favored over the other. Today, for example, when Dobbs plays Irvington, one of the teams will be favored but you would be hard pressed to say that one can “upset” the other. They merely may beat, defeated, scored more, etc than the favored team but if you call it an upset then you must see every wave as a tsunami. The term “upset” conjures up somrthing different that an underdog simply beating a favorite. It has to be a shock that makes you pause for a second and have a “wow” moment and the initial game described just does not fit that criteria. Now it’s the “end of story”…just kidding.

          • Old Rugger says:

How about “mild upset” LOL Now would you have called the JJ beating Huntington in 2007 an upset? 2 top teams close game earlier in the year yet most news coverage called it an upset?

          • sectone says:

            Old Rugger,

I don’t think you can call the JJ/Huntington game an upset. Many did, and given the win streak Huntington was on – I get that.

But didn’t Jay lose by only 3 to them early in the year w/o Bohlander?

          • sectone says:

            reeemy who are you?

The irony is that the initial dig was on John Jay, that started much of this. I’ll leave it at that and move on.

  70. Syracuse says:

    Darien beat Ludlowe 17-4

  71. Syracuse says:

It sounds like Yorktown’s players were none too pleased they let a comfortable lead get closer than it should have been. If you notice, Somers scored a bunch of EMO goals in the second half, something that can be construed as laziness on the part of Town with a big lead. Not a complete four-quarter effort. But, Yorktown is clearly the front-runner in Class B now. What will be interesting will be how the ridiculous sectional seedings impact the Yorktowns, Jays and Somers of the world.

  72. rlaxfamily says:

I thought that Ty had a great game – running circles around the big defender. I do think that Ytown let off their guard and took for granted that the game was in the bag. Needs to be corrected. I also hate to see the big Ytown Dman taking the ball over the line only to lose it and it resulted in a goal. Sloppy actions that are coach correctible…get on it. Murphy Cup game is around the corner and the cup must be brought home. First things first.

  73. LSM says:

I am a LSM who has played against a majority of the big time guys. In my opinion, and my coaches echo this. Conor Prunty, Ty Shuldt, and Anthony Lombardo are the toughest, and best middies in the section. very hard to stop and slide to.

  74. Lax Captains says:

The Yorktown Lacrosse team parents would like to thank all of the Yorktown and Somers fans who came together the other night to support a great cause. Together we raised over $1300.00 for the Stephanie Crispinelli Humanitarian Fund. Let’s make this an annual event!!
