St. Joseph’s of Trumbull, which has emerged as one of Connecticut’s top programs the last few years, visits New Canaan at 4 p.m. today at Dunning Stadium.

Let’s play two at Shea.

No, we’re not talking about baseball and the Mets’ old ballpark, folks.

We’re talking about West Point.

As in Shea Stadium at the U.S. Military Academy.

That’s where there will be a doubleheader today, starting at 10 a.m., when Cold Spring Harbor takes on Somers. At noon, Lakeland/Panas faces Carthage. Coincidentally, Carthage is coming off a 14-11 loss to Somers.

In an interesting inter-sectional battle, Suffern, which is 6-1 with the only loss a one-goal affair to defending Section 1 Class A champ Lakeland/Panas, hosts Christian Brothers Academy of Albany, which is 5-1, at 11:30 p.m. at Suffern Middle School.

Meanwhile, on Long Island, we could be seeing a preview of the Nassau Class B title game as Garden City hosts Wantagh at 11 a.m.

In Connecticut, both defending FCIAC champ Greenwich and Wilton are off to 2-2 starts. The teams square off tonight at 7 p.m. at Wilton’s Fujitani Field off Route 7 in what promises to be a heated battle.

Before we get to the rundown of today’s schedule,  we have a couple of quick notes.

First, the Somers-Yorktown game on Tuesday, May 3 will be played for a special cause, the Stephanie Crispinelli Humanitarian Fund, honoring the Somers grad and student at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., who died during the Haiti Earthquake. For more, click here.

Also, several standouts from the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lax, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, were among the “Final 25” nominees for college lax’s most prestigious award, the Tewaaraton Trophy. For the complete list, click here.

And finally, as far as yesterday’s action is concerned, Darien’s 9-6 win over Yorktown highlighted the discussion here. With six straight state titles for Darien and six state titles in school history for Yorktown, they are two of the most followed programs in the region. Perhaps as a result, yesterday’s “Gameday” thread elicited more than 100 comments as we prepare this posting. You can check out the post-game reaction by clicking here.

Any Pac fans going to the game tomorrow, updates would be appreciated!

  2. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers has just reeled off four straight in second, turning a 3-3 draw into a 7-3 advantage vs. Cold Spring Harbor at the halftime break, reports Jim Stout of MaxPreps.com. The game was tied 2-2 after one quarter.

CSH pulls within 8-6 entering the fourth quarter. Somers had built an 8-3 lead late in the third.

  4. LI Lax says:

    Any more updates?

  5. lax-for-life says:

    Congratulations to Somers! Great effort!

  6. justlaxin says:

Big win for somers. Impressed. They seem to let up lots of goals but score plenty each game. Will they be able to win a low scoring game like in the playoffs? Congrats to the Tuskers. LP vs Cartage will be interesting. Updates please. I say 11 9 Comets.

  7. LI Lax says:

CSH has been a bit of a letdown. This is now their fourth loss of the season, three of them were against teams they arguably they shouldn’t have lost to (Hicksville, Huntington, and now Somers). Luckily for them, none of their losses were in the league and they will still have a relatively free ride to the state final.

  8. USSOCOM says:

Any update on the Garden City Game?

  9. lax scores says:

any updates on Bxville vs Greely??

  10. old-guy says:

GC 11 to 3 when I left in the fourth

  11. USSOCOM says:

    Thank you.

  12. LI Lax says:

    Mahopac-Northport updates??

  13. jack says:

    Carthage 15 LP 14

    • lax says:

Lp got robbed by a rediculous push call with under a minute left in the game. Carthage scored the winner manup with about 30 seconds left in the game. Should never come down to an official deciding the outcome of a game. Lp was up 7-6 at the half, was down 4 late, and rallied to tie it up with a little over a minute to play.

      • Joe Ranger says:

LP’s defense is a joke. Maybe some changes will be made – if not, the losing streak will build and build. I feel bad for the freshman goalie. The kid is playing well above what was expected of him.

        • lax says:

Relax, they’re completely green and that Carthage team has one of the best offenses in the country. That will be the best offensive team they see for the rest of the year. They had been making good progress before hand, today was a step backwards. If they’re able to make the corrections they need to, and can start to play consistently from game to game, then they’ll be a very tough team to beat.

          • lplax45 says:

Former AA Mike Novosel’s brother is the backup to Zingaro and supposedly is a pretty talented kid. Defense very young obviously as well. Maybe mix it up a bit?

          • re-lax says:

This is obviously another parent comment by someone not happy about their child’s playing time. Let the coaches coach and sit back and enjoy the game.

          • D-pac says:

All do respect Lax says, but Carthage doesn’t have one of the best O’s in the country. It’s good, not great.

          • lax says:

Really? Were you there? Can you name 3 of the kids on that offense and where they’re going?

  14. LI Lax says:

Mahopac 10 Northport 9 after three.

  15. LI Lax says:

    11-10 Mahopac, 8 minutes left

  16. LI Lax says:

    13-10, 5:18 left

  17. PureClassLax says:

It was 7-5 PVille over P/V at half when I left.

  18. LI Lax says:

    13-11, 2:09

  19. LI Lax says:

13-12, 1:18 left and Northport ball

  20. F&MviaTP says:

Bronxville 8 Greeley 6 Got there with a 10:35 left 3rd qtr Greeley 4 Broncos 2 Broncos outscore them 6 to 2 the last 22plus mins 2nd half. Greeley played aweful. One goal was on man-up one came from a sweet move by No.33 from behind. Someone called them a 6″measuring stick a couple days ago when I said this would have to be considered a test for the Broncos, since they play such a light schedule. One goal by the Broncos comes after a Greeley Defenseman stops covering his attackman because he thinks a ball laying near the end line was in play, when the Bronco attacker actually has the ball and goes to the net UNCOVERED! Near was by far the best player on the field, you can see why the Irish want him. McCormack had two penalties, one leading to a Greeley goal. He was a non-factor for the 22mins I watched. Wish this team played someone. I know the Byram Hills kids sitting near me would like a crack @ them.

  21. F&MviaTP says:

Bronxville 8 Greeley 6 Got there with 22mins left. Greeley played aweful. They scored on a man-up goal and one by #33 from behind on a sweet move. Broncos played well. Near was clearly the best player out there. McCormack played poorly with two penalties one leading to the man-up Greeley goal. A six inch measuring stick indeed (what someone called Greeley a couple days ago. Byram Hills had some kids watching near me, bet they’d like a crack @ Bville

  22. laxxatt says:

    Pleasantville 10, Put Valley 6

  23. HoHoHo says:

Somers Final was 12-10 CSH last goal did not count. The Tuskers are in HIGH Gear!!

  24. lacrosse says:

Greeley 6, Bronxville 8. Frieder had 1, Scott had 2, and Gladstone had 3 for the Quakers.

  25. SWLAX says:

Awesome win for Somers, wow. P’Ville too, great win for those boys. B’Ville was tested today, hat is off to Greeley. VERY patient on offense and D is sound. O ran 2-3mins off of the clock every time they touched it. B’Ville down 4-0 at one point. Broncos need to get off the bus a little better than that.

    • WoW says:

Not sold on PVille, horrific schedule just like Mamo.

Was Put Valley still missing starters today b/c of spring break vacations like they were w/ the Bronxville game?

    • laxfan says:

Could be right on that but Bronxville just came off a schedule that saw them play 5 games in 9 days. No excuses though because they did manage to win all 5 of those games and a W is a W. I can see, however, how a team could come out flat in one of those games. I take it the other way and actually give them credit for geting behind, away, in a situation where it would have been easy to pack it in and say, well, it’s not our day and we have just won 4 games. Instead, they turn it around in a game where they were in a man down for 8 minutes to Greely’s minute and a half and still manage to pull it out.

  26. Sect 1 says:

I was at the Somers CSH game and 1st half of L/P Carthage game. First thing is why was the refs from section 1? Wherever these guys were from( I assume section 9) They were absolutely horrendous. They were making things up that I never heard of.It was almost a factor in the game.
Now Somers looked very very good at times, and then not so much at other times. They are though well coached and can really play between the lines. Think they may make a run at this thing before it is over.
Lake/Pan for what I saw is very potent on offense, and will continue to put up big numbers.

    • laxref says:

refs are from what ever section the game site is. that is what happens when teams play @ a neutral site in new york.

  27. LI Lax says:

St. Joe 2, New Canaan 2 after 1

  28. LI Lax says:

    Holy Trinity 13, Foothill 4

  29. sect1lax says:

wow Pac’s really been on fire idk if LP can stand up to them as of now

  30. LI Lax says:

    4-2 New Canaan at half

  31. ron says:

Cold spring only lost to manhasset 11-10. JJ you could be I trouble

    • Doid23 says:

So using your logic, Manhasset would lose to Huntington and Hicksville.

Somers may well beat Jay, but trying to figure out future results by the score of one game is futile.

    • Lax Supporter says:

Hey Ron, maybe CSH caught Sett early before Sett was hitting on all cylinders. Considering CSH recent games I think JJ will be just fine if they get everyone healthy.

  32. sec1 says:

    New Canaan 10-6 Final

  33. Kr says:

Any word on Manhasset game against Severna Park?

  34. LI Lax says:

CSH also lost to Huntington and Hicksville by 5…

  35. Joe Lombardi says:

Manhasset holds a 7-1 halftime lead over Severna Park (Md.).

    • Joe Lombardi says:

      Final: 13-1 Manhasset

      • Joe Lombardi says:

Manhasset plays Annapolis Area Christian School back in Maryland on Saturday before returning home to host Darien in the renewal of their annual showdown on Monday at 7 p.m. at Manhasset. The game had originally been scheduled for May 5 at Darien.

  36. Jericho says:

    Baldwin 9, South Side 7

    GC 11, Wantagh 3

    Oceanside 11, Mamaroneck 7

  37. Blue White says:

Congrats to Wilton on a BIG well earned 9-8 win over Greenwich tonite! Close game through – Warriors led by a goal at the half and after three as well.

    • Lax Novice says:

Congrats to Warrior Nation. Sounds as if it was highly contested throughout. Any stats available?

      • Blue White says:

Thanks Blue White brother. Somers for Wilton and Sands for Greenwich both played well. Chris Nugent led the way for Wilton with 3 goals

  38. slacrosse says:

Congrats to Somers and Pac on their wins over LI teams!!

    Couple observations:
    Somers/CSH
-Cudos to Lombardo who dominated FO’S and to the patient O which ran plays resulting in numbers of easy goals scored right up front. Somers was ahead of CSH for the majority of the game leading 7-3 at half. CSH was charged with a 3 minute non-releasable stick which Somers took advantage of. Good play by Somers poles and thought Somers won the ground ball game.
-Have to say I was really taken back at the mediocre level of play of CSH–this from a storied LI power who only lost by 1 goal to Manhassat? Guess anyone can have a down yr.
-dont know how really good Bville is but IF they are as good as Section 1’s top teams they would be competitive with the CSH team I saw out there today IF they were to meet at Hofstra.

LP/Carthage- LP made a great comeback late in the game. Monteferante had a great game with a ton of assists and goals. He was tough on faceoffs inc. at least 1-2 winners that resulted in rushes for goals. If he can get some more support from the wings LP will win even more FO’s. Caffrey pumped in a number of gosls and assists. LP’s new goalie made some really nice saves and is sure to keep improving.

Carthage is well-coached,and showed a number of weapons including their Syracuse bound attack kid + some good poles.

    • lplax45 says:

Agreed per comment above. I think LP has the potential to be a very dangerous team. Defensively across the board very young!! In my opinion, with the defense very weak regardless, I would focus on getting as many poles in as possible. Build some character. Give it a season. And by the time these kids are seniors the depth will be unstoppable!

      • lax says:

So…….your obviously a parent not happy this your child’s playing time and feel that the team should just sacrifice the season for the sake of playing your son because, in your opinion, the defense is weak already, so why would it hurt to play all the kids?

      • 2-0 says:

Give it a season? Why so the two all american candidates can graduate? Looking forward, the best chance for L/P to win another section title is this year. With a weak defense it is clear those players not in the game have no business being on the field. Playing time is earned in practice and is not owed to a player for simply being on the roster.

  39. Just a thought says:

Isn’t it amazing that whenever someone makes a critical point, there always seems to be a comment that it must be the parent of a player that is not playing making it. Yet we never seem to state the obvious that the person making that responsive comment is probably a parent who is happy with his son’s playing time.
