Senior defenseman Luke Dutton and unbeaten Bronxville, who have never advanced to a Section 1 championship game, face six-time sectional finalist and two-time defending Class C champ Put Valley today.

Section 1 takes center stage today.

Bronxville, which has never advance to a sectional final in its history, sure looks like it could be headed there this year. The Broncos, off to a 6-0 start, face their sternest test of the season when they visit six-time Class C sectional finalist and two-time defending champ Put Valley at 1 p.m.

Unbeaten Lakeland/Panas faces the first of three straight challenging intersectional games as it hosts Penn Yan at noon at Walter Panas High School in Crompond. The Rebels then face Carthage on Thursday and Shenendehowa on Saturday. Penn Yan is off to a 5-1 start, with loss being a 15-9 setback to Carthage.

Speaking of the Comets (6-1), they face Somers today at West Point.

Led by Dartmouth-bound midfielder Jibran Ahmad, Hackley has looked impressive. The Hornets have won five straight since dropping their season opener to Regis Jesuit of Colorado, which is 13th in the latest MaxPreps.com Xcellent 20 national rankings, released yesterday. Hackley has a chance to pick up a win against a Section 1 team when Ossining makes the short trip down Route 9 to take on the host Hornets at 4:30 p.m.

In Long Island, the schedule is light, but one game of note features national power Chaminade, coming off an 8-7 loss to West Islip, hosting resurgent Fordham Prep (7-2) at 4:30 p.m. Fordham Prep next faces St. Anthony’s in a challenging two-game CHSAA stretch.

Here’s a look at how today’s schedule looks:

White Plains at Suffern at Suffern Middle School, 11 a.m.
Somers vs. Carthage at West Point, 11 a.m.
Penn Yan at Lakeland/Panas at Walter Panas High School, noon

  1. This will be good says:

I can’t wait to see what #3 does to Ahmad tomorrow. If he plays like he did against M-W, Jibran wont make it too far. He’s bigger, faster, and stronger.

    This should be good.

  2. SWLAX says:

Dutton has missed the last two games with a broken thumb…Broncos miss him, but their play speaks to their depth this year where in past years losing a starter would have spelled disaster.

    • laxfan says:

No question, not having Dutton who is 1/3 of a very experienced D line is a huge blow but he will be back by next week and certainly come playoff time so this is one of those things that happens to all teams during the course of a season and requires a team to show its depth. The kid is a very fast great one on one defender with excellent stick skills so he will be sorely missed. He will also be playing in college.

  3. laxxatt says:

Would love to hear some predictions on this Bronxville/PV game. I’ll say Bronxville 10, Put Valley 7

    • slacrosse says:

      Thinking 10-4

    • laxfan says:

Tough to gauge because the weather may play a factor plus PV’s lousy field (picture the surface a pool table but not as soft)gives them a decided home field advantage but I say Bronxville wins 11-8.

  4. Old Rugger says:

    Bville 10 PV 5.
Book Luck to LP today against Penn Yan.
Brewster FL looks to be an interesting game?

    • GreenBear says:

Indeed the Brewster /Foxlane was interesting…At half time it was 6-1 Foxlane. Brewster woke up and came out firing in the second half. Played with intensity on both sides off ball. Just could get enough shots to fall. Scored with with 8 seconds left to make it 6-5. Won the face but ran out of time…

    • GreenBear says:

Brewster Foxlane was real interesting…it was 6-1 at half-time. Both teams played decent but Brewster did not get many shots off. They came out firing in the second half, scored with 8 seconds left to make it 6-5. Won the face but ran out of time. Brewster had its chances to win this. Foxlane goalie played well. Over-all a good game to watch with alot of back and forth.

      • GreenBear says:

The game between brewster and foxlane was pretty interesting. i would say it is a 4 out of 10. anyway, it was 6-1 at half time. both of the teams played alright, brewster couldnt shoot that much. They woke up and came out shooting alot of balls in the second half. They played intensely on offense and defense. they scored with 8 seconds left to make it 6-5. Won the face but ran out of time. Won the face but ran out of time. Won the face but ran out of time. lol. Over all a good game,

    any update on LP/Penn Yan?

  6. Lion says:

Any Sufferm – White Plains updates?

  7. laxfan says:

    Bxville vs PV update??

  8. husker green says:

Somers just beat carthage 14 to 8 at west point

  9. sec1 says:

Penn Yan 9 LP 5 Final

  10. scooter says:

The Mahopac girls beat Suffern for the first time ever today 8-6

  11. Ta-Da says:

    Bronxville -14
    P-Valley – 03

    • laxfan says:

is that a final in the PV vs Bxville game? if so, pretty shocking, what happened?

      • Lax fann says:

        Bronxville-14
        Put Valley-3

        FINAL

Near, Mcormick, and Grass had outstanding games for the broncos. The defense played very well also. It was obvious that Putnam had not seen a team this strong all season. Bronxville is really proving they can play with the best.

        • wizard2 says:

please,PV lost to suffern and L/p who will both roll Bronxville. I’ve seen them all play.

          • laxer says:

absolutely not. those 3 are phenomenal… theyre all worthy of a number 1 pole. anything less than that isnt going to stop them. the defense is also all 6 feet plus and very athletic with stick skills… they might be the hardest team to match up against in section 1

          • laxman says:

how can you say that? Bville did better against PV than Suffern did, and their defense played much better than lakeland only letting up 3 goals when lakeland let up close to 10. Bville definitely showing they can play!

          • laxer says:

you arent making sense anymore… are you advocating for bville or rooting against them?

          • laxerrr says:

Why would he be rooting against Bville? He is saying they let in only 3 goals, far less than LP or suffern. I would say he is an advocate for bville

          • lax says:

never let the facts get in the way of a good story

  12. hvlax says:

    final bronxville 14 PV 3
could’ve been a bigger spread i think, but still very surprising

  13. NRLAX says:

    NR 8- Mamaroneck 7

  14. NRLAX says:

    North Rockland 8 – Mamaroneck 7

    • Lax Supporter says:

Nice win for North Rockland, but its a horrific loss for Mamo. Just points out the lousy schedule that Mamo has. North Rockland has a good group of starters but they have zero depth. I think they have maybe 4-5 extra position players. Crazy!

      • lax says:

Mamo was missing 2 of their best 4 field players. They were playing without their best close defensemen, who leads their D, and their “x” attackmen. Mamo might not have much depth, but when they have all of their guns, they can play. Look for both of them to return in coming weeks and for Mamo to be at their best ending the season.

      • lax says:

Mamo actually has a very tough schedule this year

        • upstate says:

Sorry Lax and Mamaroneck, no amount of excuses will get you out of this one. You can’t lose to North Rockland, a team that has only gone a combined 4 – 17 in the past two seasons and still claim to be a top team in Class A. That loss crushes that argument. Two players shouldn’t make that much of a difference for a top team.

        • Lax Supporter says:

lax, your either high or biased. Mamo has a good schedule if it was hockey season but its lacrosse season so its a weak schedule.

          • lax says:

Actually, they ahve a strong schedule. Bville twice, Fairfield Ludlowe, Weston, Oceanside, and Byram Hills. Really not a weak schedule at all. Also, when you’re missing 40% of your returning starters from the year before, it hurts.

          • Laxin says:

Your arguments are weak. That was a horrible loss. Mamo has not beat a decent team all season and probably won’t. N. Rock not that good.

          • Long Time Laxer says:

As much as it hurts me to say, Mamk is down this year. Defense is very strong, but cant make up for midfield weakness at both ends of the field. Attack is barely OK, but will get better if injuries heal. .500 record would probably be OK

  15. Paul Snyder says:

Surprising indeed since Bronxville lost to PV @ Bronxville lasr year

  16. slacrosse says:

Congrats to Bville on a convincing win to say the least.

The W was not surprising but the huge margin certainly was. Did not know how far down PV was this season so went with a 6 goal win. The 11 goal margin shows combo of Bville’s strength for sure and what appears to be a far weaker PV team.

Bville is clearly atop of Class C. Watch out for Byram Hills with their strong goalie.

  17. Joe Lombardi says:

Final: Fox Lane 6, Brewster 5

  18. Paul Snyder says:

What happened in the Chaminade vs Fordham Prep game? Blow-out?

  19. Mike says:

Any update on Chaminade v. Prep?

  20. Flyer Nation says:

    Nade 16
    Fordham Prep 9

    Mahon, Thornton 3-0
    Graham 2-1
    Schoenhut, Conway 2-0

Flyers went up 4-1 in the 1st qtr and put it away by outscoring Fordham 4-2 in 3rd qtr to go ahead 13-6

    • F&MviaTP says:

Thanks for the update…Gillan’s doing a good job for the Diplomats..thanks for the talent

    • Mike says:

How did Fordham look? I’m an alumnus and was wondering how the program has been progressing. Thanks in advance.

      • D-pac says:

I’m an alumnus too and the team finally has stability with a good coach. Coach DeLucia had a great win over IP and had a respectable loss against Chaminade. I think that was the most goals given up by Chaminade this year. St A next. Keep it going Rams! Can’t wait to see Fordham start a D 1 college program like Manhattan. There is so much local talent that the team would be good sooner than later. C’mon Mike, make a huge donation to start up that program, lol.

  21. F&MviaTP says:

After their big win today, the broncos better get it back in gear for the Greeley game on Thursday. With the talent and amount of returning players, the Broncos should have scheduled some “proving ground” games. Look at who Somers, Yorktown & Lakeland play this week…just saying. You want to be considered good..play some tough teams..Fordham Prep’s not enough..lol

  22. Laxpower says:

Terrible job on the new rankings, Bronxville at 23 in the country!? Really, they are good for section 1, but who have the played, PV isnt that good. How are they ranked ahead of Brunswick who beat Salisbury! I would love to see Bronxville play a real team before they get crowned that high.

    • laxer says:

relax… those are strictly computer rankings. its done mathematically based on how much you beat a team in relation to how much the computer predicts you will beat a team… and if the team is home or away. that is in no way official. look on inside lacrosse if you want the real rankings

    • laxx says:

you’re an idiot those are strictly based off of record, no difficulty is factored in at all

  23. F&MviaTP says:

Bronxville plays no one! Their measuring stick games are Greeley and Fordham…please!!!!

    • SWLAX says:

A lot of B’Ville haters. Beat HH three years in a row (a lot of talk about beating an ‘established program.’ beat PV CONVINCINGLY and still no love…measuring stick is Greeley, come on…today was supposed to be a measuring stick too…no offense to PV but not looking too strong…

      • slacrosse says:

As you know I’m sympathetic to your frustrations on scheduling.

But the bottom line is your schedule–period. You ONLY get serious “one of the top teams in Section 1” status if you beat at least some of the very TOP teams which you know you don’t play.

Move on to getting to Hofstra. Pressure should be put on Bville’s coach to “beg, borrow, or steal” to get non-debatable tough games next season from a universe that should include CT, LI and NJ and upper NYS.

Get to Hofstra which I expect Bville to do. Even if you most probably lose there, there should be enough cudos, press, etc that your coach should be able to get a few really tough games next season including maybe vs TOP Section 1 teams. If you at Hofstra?????……………………..!!!

        • slacrosse says:

sorry omitted the word “win” in last sentence.

        • lax says:

one of the better Sec 1 teams Bronxville had played in the past the last few years ducked them this year and it wasn’t because they were afraid they would have too easy of a game

          • LoveTownLax says:

what better Sec 1 team was that, lax?

          • lax says:

see the Sec 1 post below yours

          • sec1 says:

I agree with this, i know some teams ducked because they didn’t want the possibility of a loss to a team like bronxville. specifically somers and iona, somers who, if i am not mistaken lost to bronxville in a scrimmage a few weeks ago where bronxville was without 2 starting attackmen.

    • lax says:

if Greely is considered a measuring stick, it must be a 6 inch ruler

  24. Joe Lombardi says:

    Here are Somers-Carthage stats:

    Carthage- 2-1-5-3 =11
    Somers- 3-5-3-3 =14

    Kevin Cousin – 2g 1a
    Alex Corpolongo – 1g
    Anthony Carpenter – 1g
    Saves
    Chris Cousin – 7
    Jordan DeVito -4

  25. Old Rugger says:

This year Bronxville is a very good section 1C team with some D1 and D3 talent. The problem with section 1 C IMHO, as was the case in the past with RYE and PV is that they don’t schedule tougher out of league games and so even if they win sectionals they usually get crushed by LI. The Bville youth program is solid so I think they will be around for a while. If they don’t schedule some of the old Sec 1 power league teams, they can always do CT, NJ or LI.

Class C (2-4 could be interchangable as season progresses)
    1. Bville
    2. BH
    3. Pvill
    4. PV

  26. slacrosse says:

Hey that’s a fair amount closer score then I would have thought with White Plains getting to within 3 (7-10) of a good Suffern team.
