The season is off to a roaring start, folks.

Today alone, we’ve had plenty of big games to banter about.

Chaminade defeated St. Anthony’s; John Jay handled Rye; Fordham Prep stunned Iona Prep; and West Islip beat Connetquot in OT.

To name just a few of the more interesting outcomes.

The steady stream of games doesn’t mean the recruiting news has stopped, however.

If you checked our “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown” yesterday, you learned that Jibran Ahmad, a standout at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, has committed to Dartmouth.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pound Ahmad joined the Cross River-based Prime Time travel program this past fall.

“Jibran is an excellent two-way midfielder,” said Prime Time director Nick Daniello.

Now, let’s hear more from Jibran on his college choice.

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Dartmouth?
I was searching for the best academic school with a great lacrosse team throughout the recruiting process – Dartmouth seemed to fit what I was looking for.

Secondly, I’ve known Coach Andy Towers since I participated in his camps when I was in fifth grade and I know he is a great coach. When I visited Dartmouth, I felt a great sense of community and a strong competitive drive and that is all I can ask for.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered and visited Williams, Amherst, Brown, Yale, Georgetown, Penn and Colgate.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the
next level?

I will need to work on my stick skills. I also definitely need to build my body up.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I believe my speed, dodges and ability to move the ball up the field are my strengths. I play at a fast pace and always look for opportunities to score.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I have looked up to one of my best friends (Mamaroneck’s) Jake Danehy, who recently committed to Colgate. We have played together since we were young and we have pushed each other to be the best we can be. I also have watched players better than me and have tried to mimick their moves and styles of play.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
I think I realized my potential the summer of ninth grade when I played summer lacrosse for the first time. I felt I could clearly complete with the kids on the older team I was playing with.

  1. John Jay/Rye says:

    JJ:10
    Rye:6

John Jay started out hot against rye with goals by daniello (3g in game) morris and others in the first quarter and dominated time of possession. The second qaurter was won by rye and they looked very good to make it 5-5 at the half. Rye possessed the ball more but were eventually plagued by penaltys in the second half where john jay continued to control the ball. John Jay offense was generated mostly offball and through Mike Daniello. Rye’s offense ran mostly through Briggs Barton who had 5 goals on the game. This should be an interesting matchup later in the season when both teams are at full strength, both are battling some injuries.

That summer team was Westrock. And he did match well for a frosh.
