It’s our first busy Tuesday of the young season as many teams from the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region start getting ready for the Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday game routine.

Actually, for two of them, the routine of just playing varsity games will take some getting used to, folks.

We’re talking about two of the new varsity programs that will be debuting with games today: Carmel and Blind Brook. (A third new varsity program – Keio – debuted last week with a game against its sister school from Japan, also named Keio.)

As we told you back in January, Carmel’s varsity debut comes just three years after 70 boys tried out for the modified team that provided the launching point for the program back in 2008. In case you missed that story, be sure to click here.

Carmel hosts Hen Hud today. Blind Brook is also marking its debut with a home game, against Briarcliff. Both games are at 4:30 p.m.

There’s also a good amount of games on Long Island, including Garden City looking to improve to 3-0 against a Jericho team that was among the nine squads that competed this past Saturday at the third annual Red/Gray Tournament at Somers. Garden City has a showdown later this week against Ward Melville on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ward Melville.

Here’s a rundown of what’s on the schedule for today:

Long Island Lutheran at St. Dominic, 4 p.m.
Hempstead at Glen Cove, 4:15 p.m.
Wheatley at Great Neck South, 4:15 p.m.
Uniondale at Malverne, 4:15 p.m.
Cherry Creek at South Side, 4:15 p.m.
Carey at Floral Park, 4:15 p.m.
New Hyde Park at Mineola at Hampton Stadium, 4:15 p.m.
Briarcliff at Blind Brook, 4:30 p.m.
Ossining at Keio, 4:30 p.m.
Pleasantville at Croton, 4:30 p.m.
Garden City at Jericho, 4:30 p.m.
West Hempstead at Island Trees, 4:30 p.m.
Hen Hud at Carmel, 4:30 p.m.
Westlake at Sleepy Hollow, 4:30 p.m.
Clarke at Sewanhaka, 4:30 p.m.
Roslyn at Port Washington, 4:30 p.m.
Farmingdale at Lynbrook, 4:30 p.m.
Plainedge at East Meadow, 4:30 p.m.
Hicksville at Levittown Division, 4:30 p.m.
North Shore at Calhoun, 4:45 p.m.
Brewster at Arlington, 5:15 p.m.
Stepinac at Harrison, 6 p.m.
Hewlett at Long Beach at Long Beach Middle School, 7 p.m.

In a scrimmage of note, Mahopac visits New Canaan.

Big City Classic, college schedule
The college lax spotlight will be on the metro area on Sunday as the New Meadowlands Stadium serves as the host site once again for the Big City Classic tripleheader. The Unicorns are playing their first Section 1 game today.

Any word on Mahopac New Canaan scrimmage?

    • D-Pac says:

Hey Laxin. Score of the Pac/ New Canaan scrimmage was Pac 10-7. It was 3-1 NC after the 1st. NC goalie made two point blank saves and Pac hit the post. Bota for Pac looked good. Had 3 or 4 goals. Either 4-2 or 5-2 NC at half. Pac woke up in the 3rd with 5 goals. After 4th quarter, before the reserves came in, it was 9-7 Pac. They added one goal in the 5th period. Goalie play for Pac looked good with Molfetta and Ludovico splitting quarters. Verde was a beast hitting everyone in his path and McDonough was a pest all over the field. Offense played better in second half, but needs to be sharper. Looking forward to Pac/ Rye scrimmage on Thursday.

      • Lax Novice says:

Not to dampen your euphoria, but due to the large rosters most top FCIAC teams possess NC likely pulled their starters after halftime. That’s what most Connecticut teams do. Just sayin’.

        • Bp says:

          Large rosters…….????????……..please elaborate?????????

          • LI Lax says:

Pretty self explanatory. Most teams pull their starters at half in scrimmages anyway.

          • Lax Novice says:

By starters I believe we are referring to the regular rotation of 16-18 or so players who would receive playing time in a competitive game. If a varsity team has a many as 40 players dressed, that wouldn’t leave much time for everyone else to get in the 5th quarter of a scrimmage. So most teams of that size pull starters at halftime and utilize the other 3 quarters to work in the other 20 guys. It’s about getting guys on the field, not who “wins”.

        • D-Pac says:

If NC starting defense didn’t play in the 3rd quarter, or their starting goalie, then they outright beat Pac. Has to be the reason that Pac scored 7 goals in that quarter. First half was closer than 5-2. Goalie for NC was great.

  12. Joe Lombardi says:

The final indeed is Arlington 8, Brewster 6

  13. Sam says:

    Pleasantville 8, Croton 6

  14. Jericho says:

    St. Dom 14
    LI Lutheran 12

  15. Jericho says:

    Port Wash 8
    Roslyn 7

  16. upstate says:

wow, that is a big deal in section 1. haven’t seen such a changing of guard since white plains beat pac all those years back. if arlington can win their league, maybe they can look to move up next season. they have a tough schedule from here on out though (minus thier crazy weak league though). let’s see what they can do against the other power schools.

  17. slacrosse says:

Nice win for Wantaugh over Cherry Creek from Co. CC has over the yrs been one of the top teams out in the west.

    Anyone see the game?

  18. slacrosse says:

Just noticed Cherry Creek beat South side 12-6.

Not a negative comment on CC, just asking whether SS is down this yr?

    • LI Lax says:

Cherry Creek is good. This team is no joke. South Side is probably not going to contend for Nassau B crown, but Wantagh will and Creek played right with them as well.

      • Lax Novice says:

Not to mention that the Colorado team was playing for the 3rd time in four days. Good for them and all of HS lax in the Western US. Cherry Creek is rated the #1 team in the Western region by IL, San Ramon Valley at #3 and coming next week with 7 games under their belt before taking on Garden City and JJ.

      • slacrosse says:

Thx-Yeah, CC is legit. Looks like Wantaugh could be tough this season.

  19. HV Fan says:

SH beat Westlake 11-4…game was decided at the half when SH took their foot off the gas…big game on Thurs vs Briarcliff

  20. slacrosse says:

It’s great that top teams from non traditional lacrosse areas like Cherry Creek (Co) and San Ramon(Ca) are playing top teams from this area. Interesting for the kids and lends a bit more credibility/data points when national rankings from IL come out in terms of whether teams like the above deserve any type of ranking.

  21. SWLAX says:

Any insight into B’Ville v. Somers yesterday? Was anyone there?

  22. Packers! says:

I wasnt, however in talking to a Somers parent. ( I work with ) Bronxville handled Somers beating them by like 7 goals. Then after that Greenwich relly put a beat down on the Tuskers. Gonna be Long year for Coach Lew and the boys in Lincolndale. Maybe he should take it easy on that schedule he set up.

  23. South of 287 says:

Interesting Greenwich-Somers result. Mamo played Greenwich in Sat Scrimmage – losing by one or two.

B-ville got some firepower this season. They should win C with their talent.

    • D-Pac says:

Not that impressed with Bronxville, but only saw them in a scrimmage with Pac, which doesn’t mean much. If PV isn’t as good as last year, Bronxville should win the league. Mamaroneck is the team to watch. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re in the final against LP or Pac.

      • slacrosse says:

Know what time the Pac/Rye scrimmage is today? Thx

        • Lax Guy says:

Slacrosse it is 4:45 @ Mahopac

        • D-Pac says:

Until starters were taken out for the 4th quarter, Pac was leading 6-4 over Rye. Sloppy play by both teams. Pac D looked much better than Rye. Parrillo shutdown Briggs with Verde and Fetzer playing tough as well. I think the Empire team could have used some Pac D.

          • slacrosse says:

Frankly your continued knocks at Rye relating to the Empire State Games is an embarrassment to you and in my opinion the 99.9% of the good Mahopac fans (and players) I and other Rye parents have come to know over the years (parents of Pac kids who have played Empires over the years).

Maybe your son was not chosen for the team? If so, sorry but look, why don’t you stop by one of the John Jay games and ask Coach Schurr what went into HIS choosing the D? Maybe this will finally help you in laying off the Rye kids.

      • SWLAX says:

Again, 6 v 6 half field is not a scrimmage D-Pac, that’s why they play the game on a full field.

        • slacrosse says:

Sick of D-Pac’s continued “Empire” related comments.

To your comment the game was in fact played full field with refs. It was a pretty close game played kind of sloppily by both teams. I’d give Pac an edge to their overall play vs. Rye and Barton was covered well and shut down. No way that Pac’s D “looked much better then Rye”–that’s an “Empire Games” hang-up that D-Pac still harbors against the Rye kids.

I know Pac was missing a few kids and Rye was missing 2 of their starting senior Middies who should return for the Jay game.

          • SWLAX says:

slacrosse – I was referring to D-Pacs continuous reference to the B’Ville v. Pac ‘scrimmage,’ which was half field 6v6. Rye has a great squad this year, I fully expect them to compete for the title in B and would be lying if I said I weren’t glad that they are FINALLY out of C!

          • D-Pac says:

S lacrosse, why do you have a hangup that Pac’s D is better than Rye’s? It’s the truth. As far as my hangup on Empire’s, if Rye has seven kids on the team and can’t even beat PV for the title, when Pac beat PV handily, something is fishy. Just sayin.

  24. Tigers Bite says:

Yea no doubt we would do work to Somerset this year. Mamaroneck should be getting more ink. We are going to be there in the end!!

  25. Tigers Bite says:

    Sorry meant Somers.

  26. Bp says:

Mamaroneck has a few good players. Decent team. Somers has much more talent!6:7

    • South of 287 says:

Mamk has very good Goalie and two strong Close D-men which will keep them in every game.

Will have trouble scoring against good D as their O is very young.

  27. slacrosse says:

    SWLAX,

    OK.

If you’re a Bville fan, feel like you should have a good chance to win Class C (as well as be competitive with all the top teams in Section 1 given your players). Also now that Manhassett is in Class B, assuming you would get to Hofstra, I think it might be “somewhat” easier to end up facing a Cold Spring Harbor, etc.team , vs Sett.

Good luck even if you’re not a Bville fan!

    • slacrosse says:

SWLAX-Manhasset vs Cold Spring Harbor tonite–look for the score on that one!

      • SWLAX says:

        Bronxville total enrollment- 452
Cold Spring Harbor total enrollment – 700
The Broncos are still at a SMALL disadvantage, but getting rid of the even bigger schools like Rye and Set (up to B) can’t hurt! As lacrosse continues to grow and more schools add teams, maybe the current class criteria will change (there are only 3 for lax, 5 for football) and add to the Broncos chances. Right now they’re fighting the good fight, but with all else being equal (coaching, player commitment, etc) they should not be able to compete with schools that are 60% larger than they are.

  28. jj110 says:

D Pac When Pac beat Pvalley how many goals did Brando have? On the other side how many di Fitz have? Last year means nothing. Pac is terrible

    • D-Pac says:

      jj110

Not sure how many Brando had. I think Fitzy had 6. Probably a wash between the two players. You are right when you say last year means nothing. Let’s see what happens this year. A little wager perhaps? Pick your favorite restaurant. I’m feeling hungry.

  29. Copps Hill says:

    Ridgefield 10, Somers 5

Ridgefield does not have the offensive firepower its had but defensively should control this game from start to finsih

  30. Mountie Man says:

    Prediction… Suffern 9, TZ 3

  31. GreenBear says:

    Is this Somers opener?
