Brandon Gamblin enjoyed a prolific scoring performance at this past summer’s Empire State Games.

The UMass-bound midfielder finished the tournament with 17 goals in six games as Long Island won its fifth straight gold medal.

Gamblin should also have a huge impact this coming varsity season.

He’s now a member of the Sachem North Flaming Arrows after transferring from Hicksville.

Since Sachem North was the lone team to beat West Islip last season, and Gamblin’s arrival gives the Flaming Arrows 10 college commits, there are big expectations for this season.

Chris Kieser provides an interesting and information breakdown of Class A in Suffolk for Inside Lacrosse today. You can check it out here.

You may be surprised how he picks as the No. 1 team in the preseason, especially considering West Islip has won four state titles the last five years.

Then again, given the circumstances, maybe you won’t.

Sachem North’s college commits

Class of 2011

Michael Andreassi, UMass, attack/midfield

Angelo Armine, Molloy, midfield

Jake Cabble, Robert Morris, midfield

Brandon Gamblin, UMass, midfield

Fred Golini, Hartwick, midfield

Alex Harris, Stony Brook, defense

Timmy Lang, UMBC, attack

George Raum, Adelphi, defense

Class of 2012

  1. LI Guy says:

Still think WI and SW are better than SN. SN fell apart 2nd half of last year.

  2. Jericho says:

Ward Melville is prob the best team overall. WI Has the confidence factor – SW, SN have alot of talent too.

  3. slacrosse says:

Gamblin was a monster for LI at the ESG

  4. Lions Den says:

Should be an interesting year. Definitely up for grabs.

  5. OB lax says:

    WI will repeat

    • upstate says:

they may, but i don’t think it has been this wide open in a few years. if i remember the start of the past decade Ward Melville won a couple of section 11 titles, northport won a title and smithtown won a title. After that, west islip went on their crazy run. i will be watching as class a develops this season. i think it will be exciting.

Don’t count out Smithtown East, William Floyd, Hills East or Walt Whitman either. Those teams need some respect.

  6. Mah Dude says:

Whitman with Jones will be a contender.

    • Lax Guy says:

Jones is a monster, saw him play in Buffalo last year for LI ESG team. He must be 6′-5″ and is able to use his size to free his hands. Moves very well for a big man.

      • upstate says:

how old is he? a junior or senior?

        • Joe Lombardi says:

He’s a senior midfielder headed to Duke. Lax Guy is quite right. He’s 6-5, with great speed and a tremendously strong shot. In addition, he’s a three-sport athlete who was Whitman’s quarterback in football. He’s one of the Long Island players I spotlight in the first of our regional previews that will air Tuesday at 6 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. on MSG Varsity’s “High School SportsDesk” show on Channel 14 (Optimum).

          • upstate says:

no kidding. as i said, walt whitman needs some respect this year. good for mr. jones. thanks for the info joe.
