Syracuse’s men’s lacrosse team is alone at the top.

Tim Desko scored five goals as Syracuse held on for a 12-10 win over Virginia tonight before 14,430 fans at the Carrier Dome in a matchup of teams that entered the game ranked No. 1 in the latest USILA Division I coaches’ poll.

Syracuse, playing before an overflow crowd, wore throwback jerseys for the game, which was broadcast live by ESPNU.

  3. Sam Lax says:

    Big win for Army!

  4. 12rock says:

Jimmy van de veerdonk 4 goal Tom kelly1 in oneonta season opener loss. Go valley alumni ! Good luck next game

  5. slacrosse says:

Dont count Cornell out yet. Hopefully the three key injured starters (Moch, Lau and Feeley) that didn’t play will be back for the UVA game.

    • South of 287 says:

Big red outplayed army except in goal, 3rd period was the whole game as red goalie couldnt make a save and they missed hurley as a finisher. they have a young team and army brought some O from their middies which surprised cornell.

Cornell will have their hands full against U Va especially without their injured players. Red hadn’t played anyone yet and army got a lot of confidence in their second half against Syracuse.

  6. upstate says:

ND beat Drexel 11-7 and Providence beat Presbyterian 6-5

  7. slacrosse says:

Hey is Stockel of Jay/Drexel OK? –haven’t seen him in the stats this season?

  8. Todd Rd. says:

Stockel blew his knee out and is red shirting

    • slacrosse says:

Thanx and a shame about his injury. Terrific player and wish him a speedy recovery and good luck going forward.

      • Fox Lax-There needs to be an Investigation says:

No doubt, the loss of Stockel for Drexel is a big blow but he’ll be back and tearing it up again.

That leads me to this observation about the John Jay 2007 team that made the finals. What a missed opportunity.

Every weekend the last few years you can see or read about the various players from that JJ team that are doing extremely well at college programs( Bocklet, Bohlander, Douglass, Stockel, Drew, Schniedermann(sp), Granelli, ) the list goes on. The fact that they lost the championship game is mind blowing. I dont even know of one player from Jamesville DeWitt from the 2007 team that is playing at the consistent high level of these JJ players.

Its just a shame that JJ missed that opportunity.

        Just saying!

        • slacrosse says:

          Yeah, 2007 was special.

          • Todd Rd. says:

HEY have you ever heard of beating the number 1 team in the nation in double overtime and then trying to have gas left in the tank to play a solid team in there home turf. And by the way Jamesville Dewitt has 3 state titles under there belt and they have been to 8. How many does JJ have?

  9. Lax Novice says:

At Halftime from Homewood Field –

    Johns Hopkins 4 (!), Manhattan College 1

    Go Jaspers!

    • Lax Novice says:

      FINAL – JHU 10, Manhattan 3

The Jaspers won exactly one faceoff in this game. Nevertheless, they competed and showed well on national television. John Ranagan 2g, 1a for the Blue Jays. Freshman goalie Rich Akapnitis (Hauppauge HS) with 15 saves for Manhattan, well done.

  10. Laxtime says:

Good effort by Manhattan but Hopkins is obviously still young and will be lucky to win an NCAA tournament game this year. I get the ESPNU-Hopkins deal for coverage. It’s like Notre Dame and NBC. But this is crazy. Siena-Hopkins and Manhattan-Hopkins on national TV and UVa-Cuse is not. C’mon now!

    • Lax Novice says:

I think you meant UVA – Stony Brook, but point taken. The thing is Hopkins is to college lacrosse what ND is to football, and from a TV standpoint its that kind of brand recognition and loyal following that really matters.

  11. C-Lax says:

Cuse leads Gtown 4-2 at the half. It was 2-2 and Cuse was held scoreless for over 17 minutes by Hoya zone D.

    • BigBadBear says:

‘Cuse escapes, bailed out by Keough…not a good game, Galloway only ordinary, way too many mistakes (Jovan, you gotta hang onto the ball!)…absolutely nothing from the second line, and I don’t recall seeing Palasek in the second half at all..best player on the field was not wearing orange, Emala had 5 for GT..if GT could clear they may have won the game

  12. slacrosse says:

    Go get em Albany!!

  13. Laxit says:

Surprised Cuse struggled so much offensively vs Gtown. Totally wide open this year with no clearcut #1 team.

  14. BigBadBear says:

KI gets his first goal as a Blue Jay in yesterday’s thrashing of UMBC, while big John Ranagan arguably has his best overall game for Hop….but ‘Cuse is coming…anybody think they have a chance?

    • Lax Novice says:

Not really. The Orange are too athletic for the Blue Jays, and they will kiss Hopkins at the face-ff X. Marasco, Keough, Desko, Miller, Thompson plus Joel White and John Galloway simply too much for Hopkins.

Ranagan will likely draw SSDM Kevin Drew when JHU has the ball. Any thoughts on who is going to win that individual battle?

    • slacrosse says:

      No

  15. Just sayin says:

Dang how come Cuse struggled to beat Gtown???
