For Will DeLaMater, the college recruiting picture all started to come into focus this past summer.

The athletic midfielder drew recruiting interest after enjoying a strong showing with the Prime Time travel team in which he exhibited good offensive skills and solid all-around play.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound DeLaMater, a senior standout at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., will be continuing his lax career at Trinity College in Hartford.

Here’s a Q&A with Will on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Trinity?
Distance from home, school reputation, environment, and of course, lacrosse reputation. I wanted a school that was away from home yet not a trek to get there, and since Trinity is just a two-hour drive it seemed like the perfect distance. School and lacrosse reputation obviously came into play and Trinity has excellent reputations on both sides.

I had a lot of positive feedback from coaches, friends and college advisors about Trinity. When I took my tour of campus the environment given off really caught my attention. I felt that Trinity was a place that I would feel comfortable at and truly enjoy. I also know a couple people already at Trinity whom all enjoy their experience and always speak highly of it.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
The schools that I was mainly considering were Franklin & Marshall, Stevens, Skidmore, Air Force and Siena. I had been contacted by Air Force and Siena over the summer and had been talking to them about playing for their program but eventually made the personal choice that Division III was the level I wanted to play at.

After that decision, I focused my attention towards F&M, Skidmore, Stevens and Trinity. I visited all of those schools and did an overnight at Skidmore with one of the current players. All those schools had a great campus and enthusiastic staff and players. I knew that I would have been happy at any of those schools both in terms of academics and lacrosse but I eventually chose Trinity because of those reasons before.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I know that I have to put on a little more weight as well as improve my shot on the run. Those are the two things that I think will help acclimate me to the faster level of college play and those will come in time with practice and weight training.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My greatest strengths are my speed up and down the field and my game awareness. I like to clear the ball and create fast breaks, creating a run and gun type offense. Defensively I feel that I am also very strong. I can usually lock down my guy as well as provide the slide or off-ball cover thanks to my game awareness.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?

My sophomore year was John Antoniades, our PG who plays at Hofstra now. He was a great guy as well as a beast offensively. He was really hard to cover on the field and a great guy to go up against in practice. Another was from my junior year on the team. Jack Meyer, our PG goalie who plays at Yale now, was one of our captains. He was a great leader that led by example and always offered up his knowledge or advice to the team, which always proved to be helpful.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
This past summer. I didn’t start going to camps until my sophomore year and even my sophomore summer I felt that I still had a lot to learn before I could even fathom playing at the college level. Playing with Prime Time this past summer really gave me the opportunity to grow enormously as a player and it elevated my play tremendously. It was a great program to be a part of and I am always grateful and thankful for my opportunity to play for that team.
