It’s been a busy week of recruiting commitments, folks.

If you’ve been checking out our  “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown”each day, you already know this.

Three of this week’s commitments have come from players from the Prime Time travel program: the Hotchkiss School’s Chase Clymer (Middlebury) and Loomis Chaffee’s Will DeLaMater (Trinity) and the lone junior in the trio, Mamaroneck junior Jake Danehy.

“Jake is an exceptional athlete and goalie who is hands down one of the top goalies not only in the section but in the state,” said Nick Daniello, the director of the Prime Time travel program. “He is a major playmaker in the net who has a knack for making the big save and igniting the fast break. Colgate is very lucky to have landed not only a great player but a great kid as well.”

Now, here are Jake’s thoughts on his commitment to Colgate, where he will join John Jay senior and fellow Prime Time U17 member Forrest Walter.

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Colgate?
I was looking for a small Liberal Arts college which would offer me the opportunity to receive a terrific education. I have visited the school many times, and it feels exactly like what I expected college would be.  I also really like and respect Coach (Jim) Nagle and the guys on the team. I have always wanted to play D-I and Colgate has a great program that seems like a perfect fit.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering and visited Middlebury, Dartmouth, Brown, Williams and Haverford. I really liked Middlebury and Dartmouth, but in the end I knew I want to go to Colgate.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I need to continue working on my positioning. Right now, I can pull off being a little bit out of position, but as the shots get faster and more accurate, it will be harder to make up for mistakes.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I have pretty good footwork and am confident when clearing the ball. But I still definitely have a lot to work on.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I would say my biggest influence has been my teammate and friend Matt Weiner, who is now playing at Connecticut College. He helped me all of last year when he was unable to play, and I learned a great deal from him. He also definitely gave me some motivation to try and play college lax.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
My high school coach Jeff Barnard has always said he thought I had the potential to play at the next level.   This thought was confirmed this summer playing on my club team, Prime Time, when I started talking to college coaches.
