When it comes to the race for the Section 1 Class B championship, much of the discussion has centered on four teams.

Defending champion John Jay, 2009 champion Somers as well as two teams who have moved to Class B this coming season: Yorktown (from Class A) and Rye (from Class C).

We’ve heard the perspectives of players from all those teams, and will be hearing more, as we head into the start of practice.

But we’ve also heard from players from some Class B teams that have been flying below the preseason radar, such as Horace Greeley and Fox Lane.

Today, we hear from a player from another such team — 2010 semifinalist Brewster.

The Bears have advanced to the Class B final twice since 2005. They lost won the championship in 1999, beating John Jay 14-13 in overtime.

How does Brewster look entering the 2011 season?

We will be getting a look at just that in a moment from third-year starting attackman Paul Dingee.

But first, a quick note to be sure to weigh in by voting in our poll question, “Who do you think should be the favorite to win the Section 1 Class B title?”

To vote, go to the right panel of this page. Then, just scroll past the “New Comments” and “Popular” tabs and click on “Poll,” and then cast your vote from the choices available, or write in your choice if it’s not listed.

Now, let’s get Paul’s perspective on the upcoming season.

How does your schedule look, including scrimmages, and what games are you looking forward to?
Our schedule this year is going to be a tough one. Coach (Mike) Honey likes to make it this way so we’re top notch when it comes time for sectionals in May.  We have a scrimmage down in White Plains this year which is new to me along with the regular Northport scrimmage where we always see a lot of good competition.  I’m most looking foward to our senior game which should come towards the end of the season at home.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think there are a lot of young players that will surprise people this season.  Many of them have been playing together since they picked up a stick including Anthony Alfonzetti and Liam DaRos who will be our ancors at midfield.  On the defensive side, I think our goaltender Pat Garrity will step up and keep us in a lot of games along with Harry Erickson who will always be put on the best opposing attackman.  I also think my brother Nick Dingee will have a big season for us and the two of us work very well together on the offensive side of the field.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I think the fact that these young players have played together for a long time will help our chemistry as a team.  I also think this year’s team is a lot more competitive and athletic which will help keep us in tough games.

How do you view the race in Section 1 Class B and who do you think the contending teams will be?
I think John Jay will be the team to beat this year. I’ve played alongside many of their players over the summer and they have a very strong senior class.  Of course you always have to respect the rest like Yorktown, Rye and Somers but after our past few seasons they can’t look past Brewster either.
