Most of the sports focus this weekend is on Super Bowl XLV, which, of course, will be played tomorrow in Dallas.

But for lax fans, there are some interesting scrimmages going on today throughout the Northeast.

We will be getting reports on some of them, including the two going on at Syracuse as No. 2 ‘Cuse hosts No. 9 Hofstra at noon before facing Le Moyne at 2 p.m. Hofstra and Le Moyne get things under way by squaring off at 10 a.m.

We’ll also be getting a report from Durham, N.C., where defending national champion Duke is hosting Ohio State.

Also at noon today, Army hosts Fairfield and Colgate visits Cornell.

So stay tuned for that, and be sure to weigh in with any info/thoughts on any events you may be attending.

In other lax news, Marquette, which will be launching Division I men’s and women’s programs, named coaches for both teams. One is a familiar name in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

It’s longtime Hofstra assistant Joe Amplo, who will be the first head coach in the history of the Golden Eagles’ men’s program. For more, check out the official press release by clicking here.
