There will be a new look in Section 1 Class C this coming season.

That’s because Rye, which has made six straight championship game appearances, has moved up to Class B.

Putnam Valley, which has won back-to-back titles and faced Rye in the last six title games, is the favorite.

But who are some contenders to “replace” Rye, if you will, and advance to the final?

One team that certainly bears watching is Bronxville.

The Broncos, after all, have two of the top recruits in the Hudson Valley region in Notre Dame-bound midfielder Jack Near and Georgetown-bound middie Charlie McCormick.

How do the Broncos look heading into the season?

Charlie provides his perspectives for us now.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been trying to focus on staying healthy. I have battled with injuries my previous years and think if I can stay healthy for the whole season, it will benefit the team. As for the team, the offseason is very important. We are in the gym working out and working on our stick skills trying to improve all aspects of the game.

How does your schedule look, including scrimmages, and what games are you looking forward to?
Our schedule is better than last year with more competition for the team and I am looking forward to playing some of the teams we lost to last year. We are going to try to take each game as a big game and make no mistakes this year. Play every game hard  preparing us for playoffs when we should be playing our best lacrosse.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think some of the younger kids are going to impress. Jack Grass is returning at attack to add to our offense. Andrew Walsh will have a good year contributing on the faceoffs and the midfield position. Also, sophomore goalie Eric Pass is going to be a major asset to the team. I think all the players are going to step up this year and fill the spots of our graduated seniors last year.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
This year we have an overall strong team. Our defense is experienced this year and led by strong and talented seniors. I do not think scoring on the offense should be a problem with threats from both the midfield and the attack.

How do you view the race in Class C and who do you think the contending teams will be?
It is tough to say. With Rye moving up to B, our chances are only increasing. We also have increasing experience in all the positions. Our team is looking pretty strong but we just need to take one game at a time and see where we end up. We have the potential to win the section this year if we play our game.

    Pleasantville
    Putnam Valley

  3. Rye Guy says:

The key for Bronxville will be if they have any kind of depth which they really didn’t last year.
