It won’t be long now, gang.

The new year is here and the official start of college preseason practices is upon us.

High school teams, of course, still have a ways to go, but it’s coming up pretty fast.

With that in mind, we are continuing to work our way up and down the region, getting the thoughts of standouts on how their teams look.

That’s what our popular “Player’s perspective” feature is all about.

Remember, if you want to share your thoughts on the upcoming season, just send an e-mail to info@laxlessons.com.

Today we check in with all-America midfielder Conor Prunty from Lakeland/Panas.

Last year, the 6-foot-1 Siena College-bound star helped the Rebels enjoy a historic season as they beat Yorktown twice in one season for the first time, including a dramatic victory in the Section 1 final.

Here are Conor’s perspectives on the season:

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
We have been getting after it very hard this offseason in the weight room. Many kids are coming and we are working hard to achieve our goal for the second year in a row and that’s win a sectional championship. We have a young but very eager group of kids who are hungry for the spring to come around.

How does your schedule look, including scrimmages, and what games are you looking forward to?
Our schedule is tough this year. We added Grennich., CT to the sched and Shenendahoa for Albany as well. Like last year we have Penn Yann and tough team from upstate. Then we have everyone is section one. Yorktown, Mahopac, John Jay, and Somers. Our regular season is very tough but we are looking forward to getting after it.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
We have a bunch of young kids who have been waiting their turn to get out and play. A couple kids who will have great seasons are Tony Laguerre, a junior middie who is very fast and very athletic, and Christian Amoroso, a junior long-pole middie who is one of the quickest kids on the field and very good with the stick.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our strengths this year will be faceoffs, Chris Monteferonte returning and is the best faceoff man in section one. We are going to get a lot of possesions and need to fill the cage up.

How do you view the race in Class A and who do you think the contending teams will be?
Mahopac is a great team returning a lot of players along with Suffern. We have our work cut out for us as both teams are very talented. We need to continue to work like we have in the past and win a section championship. We are really looking forward to the spring.

    Yeh Conorrrr

  2. Good luck says:

Connor and Caffery (Providence) will be formidable and the matchup with the Pac should be excellent.

Good luck to all as winter workouts get going.

Who are some of the rising players on other teams and can we get some quick scouting reports on teams throughout the section? What I mean is, everybody picth in with a quick paragraph or two about their team. Unless, Joe wants to scout 50 teams. lol.

    Happy New Year!

  3. Laxin says:

    Have a great year Conorrrrr

  4. Scooter says:

mahopac loses their top attackman in Branofino but Kevin Carey, Jon Bota and either Tyler gyseck or nick Oliver will make PAC a good offensive team once again. Plus having TJ foley running the midfield doesn’t hurt either. The guys to look out for are junior middies Anthony berardis and Charlie Evans who are both big and fast. Evans is also the top face-off guy and should hold his own against the top guys in section 1. The defense returns all of their poles but will have to replace Mcguigan who had a really good career for Pac. Mike Ludovico is going to be replacing him but all indicators are that he is going to step up big time. If he steps up they should be able to win the section title

It all hinges on Ludovico. lol.

Yeah, this could be there year and they must take advantage of a comparatively weak group once you get past L/P and Arlington (which is a question mark).

That being said, L/P goes in as the favorite and Pac has to prove it on the field.

      Good luck Pac.
