  1. Lax Guy says:

    Joe,
I picked LP sweeping the series with Yorktown, especially considering the lead that they let slip away in the 2009 championship game.

  2. Laxtime says:

Though Darien does traditionally fall short in the FCIACs it was still a great story for Greenwich. I agree that may be the biggest surprise/story of the year.

  3. IslandLaxpert says:

Set’s state title was rather uneventful. Now that they are back where they belong in Class B, they will once again face tough competition. GC came up short in the state finals. WI and Nicky G. was by far the biggest story on LI and therefore the region.

  4. Cards Lax says:

Definately Greenwich winning the FCIAC, beating the likes of defending champ Ridgefield, Darien and New Canaan. As we’ve established that is the biggest and most competitive postseason tournament in Connecticut – and the most prestigious.

  5. LI Guy says:

Timing is everything and for Galasso to end a soried 5 yr varsity career by breaking the LI scoring record in the state final and his last HS game is not only the best story but a storybook ending for his days at WI.

  6. B-Lax says:

In terms of long term impact, ESG being cancelled…maybe permanently.

  7. Laxerrr says:

Gotta be the Galasso story or L/P over Town twice as the story of the year.

  8. Beach Lax says:

    1. Gallasso/WI

    2. Set repeats

    3. St. A’s OT win over Chaminade

  9. laxkid141 says:

What about somers comming back by a huge 8+ deficet against ridgefield and beating them in double overtime…….

  10. kr says:

I’m a Manhasset fan but to me the biggest story is Galasso. Teams win championships back to back frequently (look at WI), but it’ll be years before a player like that comes along. If anything Manhasset going undefeated after graduating so many seniors (and D1 players) is the real story, but still 2nd to Galasso imo

IslandLaxpert – what do you mean “back where they belong in B and once again facing tough competition”? If you’re a self-proclaimed expert you should realize they played Darien, Chaminade, Garden City, South Side, John Jay and Cold Spring Harbor (2x) among others

    • lax says:

      kr,

Manhassets class C opponents: Friends Academy (96.9), Mineola (88.3), North Shore (86.1), Clarke (84.4), Island Trees (80.0), Floral Park (91.3), Cold Spring Harbor (97.8), Locus Valley (91.9) and Seaford (92.9).

I think IslandLaxpert was more saying that class C is weaker than class B, which is true in every section in the state.

  11. Joe Lombardi says:

    Hey gang –

Just a quick programming note. You can check out a winter hot stove edition of “Lombardi on Lacrosse” tonite at 6 p.m. on MSGV HD’s “SportsDesk.” (Channel 14 Optimum.) We talk about the top senior and junior commits and take a look at some scheduling news and discuss class realignments as well. You can also check it out on-demand on Channel 614 and msgvarsity.com tomorrow.

  12. eye in the sky says:

JJ sweeping Somers, L/P sweeping Ytown, Darien winning another – good stories for the sections, the players and their parents, but not much else.

There is a new scoring champion on LONG ISLAND, which is a record of historic proportion. The biggest and best lax hotbed in the nation and Galasso has topped them all.

    Congrats Nick.

  13. Trick Stick says:

    A couple of predictions:

Top team on LI in 2011 – Garden City, 2nd Ward Melville and 3rd St. Anthony

Top team in CT. 2011 – Darien, 2nd Staples and 3rd Ridgefield

Top team in Westchester 2011 – John Jay, 2nd Yorktown and 3rd L/P

Player of the year – Kyle Keenan, 2nd Mike Pellegrino and 3rd Mike Daniello
