If you checked our “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown” this weekend, you’ve been getting the latest on the decisions by members of the classes of 2011, 2012, and now, 2013 high school classes.

Among the new additions: midfielders John Brainard (New Canaan, Class of 2012/UMass) and Alan Henderson (Eastport-South Manor, Class of 2011/Lehigh) and defensemen Malcolm Winter (John Jay, Class of 2011/Goucher) and Vincent Parrillo (Mahopac, Class of 2011/Nazareth).

After we post the updates, we often check back with more up close and personal info on the commitments.

Today, we spotlight Parrillo, a good cover/position defenseman who is headed to one of the nation’s premier Division III programs in the Golden Flyers.

Here’s a Q & A with Vincent on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Nazareth?
It was the best fit for me academically because I am looking to study physical therapy and they have a competitive six-year doctorate program. Put that together with a successful lacrosse program and it made sense.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Springfield and the University of New England.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
Since the game is played at a much faster pace at the college level, I will concentrate on my speed and building strength.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I believe I have a good knowledge of the game and communicate well with my teammates. I play good position defense and like to be aggressive on attackmen, while playing on their hands.

What player have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
Coming from Mahopac, it would have to be U.S. National team defenseman Ryan McClay. He taught me when I was younger.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
Playing with some of the elite players during the season or at summer tournaments and being able to hold my own against them made me realize that I can compete at the next level.
