Now that November 2010 Signing Week is one for the books, we turn our recruiting attention solidly and squarely on the classes of 2012 and ’13.

We expect more verbal commitments from several of the leading players in the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse hotbed, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region in the days and weeks to come.

So keep an eye out for that, gang.

Today, we take an up close and in-depth look at a commitment made by one of the leading members of the Class of 2012 – Tanner Scales from the Salisbury School in Connecticut (shown at right in the photo above).

The University of Virginia-bound Scales, a defenseman, is ranked No. 15 among Inside Lacrosse’s Top 50 Top 50 Young Gun Rising Juniors.

Here’s a Q&A with Tanner on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend UVa?
When I looked at all of my options, Virginia seemed like the best all-around fit.  Great academics, great facilities, great coaching staff and a great college town.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Other schools I considered were North Carolina, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Syracuse and Georgetown. I visited Carolina and Duke.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I will need to make quicker decisions.  As the game gets faster, your decisions have to be made quicker.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think I am a good stay-at-home defenseman who can push the ball when needed.  I take pride in position and off ball defense.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
The player I look up to the most is (fellow Virginia recruit and defenseman) Tanner Ottenbreit.  We have played together all of high school and will play in college together.  When I came in as a freshman, he took me under his wing and really helped me develop as a player.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When I was the only freshman on my fall select team.  I realized that if I pushed myself to get better, I would have the opportunity to play in college.
