“Don’t look back. Someone might be gaining on you.”

The baseball legend Satchel Paige uttered those words.

But they also apply to lacrosse.

As we told you here yesterday, John Jay is No. 1 among high schools in the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse hotbed (Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut) in seniors who have made college commitments, with eight.

But Sachem North is closing in on the Indians.

The Arrows now have seven — count ’em, seven — seniors who have committed to college programs.

Today, we take a look at defenseman George Raum.

As we told you earlier this week, Sachem North coach Jay Mauro reported that the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Raum has decided to continue his career at Division II power Adelphi.

Here’s a Q&A with George on his commitment,

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Adelphi?
Adelphi was one of the last schools I visited. When I got on campus, I knew it was the place for me. It was the right size, they had the academic programs I was looking for and they play a competitive Division II schedule in the Northeast-10 conference.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Siena, Manhattan College, Connecticut College, DeSales, Georgia Tech and the University of Michigan.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
The speed of the college game will definitely be a big adjustment I’ll have to make. Balancing schoolwork and lacrosse will also be another adjustment.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say my strengths as a player are my communication on the field, playing team defense , and my clearing game. My style of play is fast, I love to play the transition game.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
One of the players that I have looked up to the most as I played in high school was Evan Bloom, now a freshman at Dartmouth College. Evan always gave 100 percent effort when he was between the lines and was always one of the hardest workers of the field. Now attending an Ivy League school, he took care of his work in the classroom as well.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
I first realized that I could play lacrosse at the college level this summer. During the tryouts for the Suffolk County team, I made it much further than I had expected, and started to catch the eyes of college coaches.

Joe, when do regular season schedules generally come out? Do you know?

13rock, I answered this a few days ago on another thread. There’s no set date. But I would say by late December, maybe as early as mid-December, we should have most of the schedules for teams in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.
