Jake Froccaro is a fundamentally sound player with a great feel for the game.

But lax IQ isn’t the main reason the standout from Paul Schreiber High School in Port Washington is the No. 6-ranked rising junior in the nation by Inside Lacrosse.

Froccaro is an extremely skilled and talented athlete whose highlight reel is pretty impressive.

So too is his potential to become an impact player at the next level.

Froccaro hopes to do it at Princeton, where he will join his brother, Jeff, who was one of the nation’s leading freshmen this past season.

But the bloodlines don’t end there for Froccaro.

His uncle, Vinny Sombrotto, a former Hofstra star, is a member of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Another uncle, Stephen Sombrotto, played for the Long Island Lizards in the MLL.

What are your thoughts on following your brother Jeff to Princeton and how big a factor was that in your decision?
I have dreamed of playing alongside my brother at the collegiate level ever since we played together in high school. We are a very close-knit family and the idea of playing with Jeff was always important to me. Plus, it wouldn’t be any fun to play against him.

What were some of the other main factors in your decision to attend Princeton?
I feel that Princeton allows me to challenge myself both academically and athletically at the highest levels. The idea of competing for an Ivy League and national championship really appealed to me. I know that the coaches will be able to bring the best out of my game and I just can’t wait to be a Tiger.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Cornell, Hofstra, Penn State and North Carolina.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think my biggest strength on the field is my versatility. I work hard to play both offense and defense, in addition to facing off.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
My brother has always been a great role model and positive influence on me. Also, my uncles, Vinny and Stephen Sombrotto, have influenced my game greatly over the years.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
My first year of varsity when I was a freshman at Port Washington and that summer on the Long Island Express team. We played some of the toughest competition in the country and I felt I held my own.
