Sept. 1 marked the first day Division I college coaches could contact junior players under the NCAA’s recruiting rules.

And traditionally, that date has signaled the start of some major commitments.

This year is no different. We’ll be telling you about some of them this week. So be sure to check back for that.

First up is goaltender Kieran Burke of St. Anthony’s, who is ranked 42nd among rising juniors in the nation by Inside Lacrosse.

Burke has given a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship offer from North Carolina.

Here’s a Q&A with Kieran on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend UNC?
The great academics and I love their motto, “Family, academics, lacrosse.”

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Georgtown, UVa and Princeton.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
Get used to the speed of the shots and the game.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My abilities to clear the ball quickly and start transition, and I play in a composed, calm way.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
Grant Zimmerman and Brian Burke.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When I was going into ninth grade and my coaches told me I had great potential and would have the opportunity to play at a college level.
