Seth Tierney plans on hanging around Hofstra for a while.

The former associate head coach at Hopkins signed a contract extension to remain as head coach of the Pride through 2014. Tierney took over as Hofstra coach in August 2006 after former Pride coach John Danowski left to take over the Duke program.

One of Tierney’s main priorities with the Pride has been to keep Long Island players close to home.

He has more than fulfilled that goal of late with the addition of transfers such as Ian Braddish (West Islip/North Carolina) and Zach Pall (Ward Melville/Quinnipiac) to Hofstra and commitments by Long Island natives like goaltender Rob Bellairs (Plainedge).

There are more Islanders ready to come on board. Among them, defensive standout Ryan Rielly from John Glenn High School in Elwood.

Here’s a Q&A with Ryan on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Hofstra?
I really liked the coaching staff.  It’s a great opportunity to play the sport I love with a top tier program.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Franklin & Marshall, Binghamton, Holy Cross and Notre Dame.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I need to get bigger and stronger.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I am aggressive to the ball and I like to push the ball in transition.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I was fortunate to play as a freshman on a defense with a great bunch of guys who are all playing D-I ball now.  They were great role models for me.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When my coaches started asking me to cover guys who I knew were playing D-I and I was younger than them.
