Hicksville’s Brandon Gamblin scored four goals as Long Island won its fifth straight Empire State Games gold medal by edging Central 7-6 today at Canisius College in Buffalo.

The UMass-bound Gamblin, a midfielder, finished the tournament with 17 goals in six games as Long Island finished 5-1 and avenged for an 8-7 overtime loss to Central in Day 2 of action on Friday night.

In their rematch, Long Island scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to go ahead 5-4 on a goal by Gamblin. It was a lead it would not relinquish. Central had taken a 4-2 lead halftime lead by scoring twice in the last minute of the second quarter.

Western won the bronze-medal game earlier today at Canisius, defeating Adirondack 13-7. Western outscored Adirondack 6-2 after Adirondack had pulled within 7-5 with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter.

Here are the final standings:

Long Island 5-1 (gold)
Central 5-1 (silver)
Western 4-2 (bronze)
Adirondack 2-4
Hudson Valley 1-4
New York City 0-5

  3. Since we’re talking about subjects in the area of LI wins fifth straight gold medal | LAX with JOE, During bull markets in precious metals silver has almost always produced higher percentage increases than gold. While gold has doubled in some of the upward moves silver has, at times, tripled or quadrupled in price.

  4. BHop says:

Yeah, its really great to see a town like hicksville with such talent and watching them make it so far to the LI championship.
