The high school lacrosse world is on a brief hiatus this weekend before playoff action resumes next week. That’s by design, of course. After all, Memorial Day Weekend is the time when the college game has the spotlight all to itself.

The acti0n center on M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, where the Division I semifinals will be played on Saturday, the Division II and III national title games on Sunday and the Division I championship game on Memorial Day.

This year, later starting times are the big story for the D-I games with Saturday’s Final Four contests now at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. instead of noon and 2:30 p.m. Monday’s final will be at 3:30 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. or noon. All three games will be shown live on ESPN2.

The Division II and III championship games will be shown on CBS College Sports.

Here’s a look at the updated bracket for the Division I tournament.

    Duke 13, UVa 12

    Final … Duke 9, Cornell 8

  2. laxx says:

    ND over Cornell
    Duke over UVA

    Duke over ND

  3. Joe Lombardi says:

Final from today’s first semifinal: Notre Dame 12, Cornell 7

The Fighting Irish will make their first national title-game appearance on Monday at 3:30 p.m. when they meet the winner of today’s second semifinal between Virginia and Duke in Baltimore. (The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.)

  4. 1982 JJ Grad says:

As a transplanted New Yorker, now living in Georgia, I find it exciting to see today’s high scorer (Neal Hicks, Notre Dame attack) is from Atlanta, Georgia.

Good to see more players coming from outside the traditional hotbed areas.

Oh man, what a game! 13-13 1:21 left!

  6. no_style_points says:

How can you not root for both of these teams?! lol.

Congrats to Notre Dame! This is a great thing for lacrosse!

With the Irish in the finals, and the game spreading west, I wonder how much longer it will be before we see Idaho playing big games on their ugly blue field!

Amazingly cool-headed pass and Quinzani with two guys chasing him!

  7. Joe Lombardi says:

Max Quinzani scored off a feed from Ned Crotty with 12 seconds remaining in the game to give Duke a 14-13 win over Virginia in the other semifinal today in Baltimore before 44,389 fans at M&T Bank Stadium.

Duke will play Notre Dame on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the national championship game in Baltimore. For more, click here.

How good is this for the game of lacrosse? I love Duke, but I have to root for the Irish.

We could actually have a winner from more than a nine iron away from the Atlantic Ocean! The fact that one of the perennial favorites will not win the title is one thing, but for a team from the heartland to win the title will ignite the sport better than a million clinics and camps ever could.

Talk about a shake up – it’s just what the game needs to grow and I think we’ve all seen this coming. A new day is dawning and I know that the guys on this blog are loving this.

That being said, I’ll take Duke 10-7! lol.

    no_style_points,

Totally agree with you that this will just fuel the growing interest for this sport all over the country. Great to see kids from Minn, Tx, etc playing on many of the teams and the Cinderella teams like Army, Delaware, Stony Brook, ete, etc, going far in the tournament.

I love to follow the success of Section 1 kids like Bocklett, Drew, Jo Jo, etc, make waves at the elite D1 schools. But have said this before that the droves of AA’s entering these schools every yr is getting over the top (doesn’t guarantee wins) + these schools getting “verbals” from some of these kids in their Soph yr is wrong. The NCAA ahould ban this. Like Girardi of the Yankees who coaches the best team “money can buy” and would probably be fired after a few non series winning seasons, so the coaches at these elite lax schools taking in all these AA’s should be under BIG pressure by their AD’s to demand results.

These are very good academic schools as well so certainly can see kids wanting to go there but would love to see some future AA’s make the decision to go elsewhere. Maybe getting good playing sooner earlier would male a difference?

  10. slacrosse says:

    no_style_points,

Sorry for typos in last sentence (maybe others?). Talking about AA’s getting good playing time earlier then if they were right behind and/or along side 6 other AA’s on the team.

  11. truth says:

Congrats to Chris Daniello getting 3rd team AA as a senior at Syracuse

Also congrats to Chris Bocklet for getting AA honorable mention and ending the season with close to 70 points, almost breaking the single season scoring record for Virginia

  12. no_style_points says:

    Slac,

You mention what is probably more important than ND in the Final and that was Army, Delaware, Stony Brook et al going deep into the mix.

It added up to thousands of fans attending games and watching on tv and they are all powerful logos to attract sports fans in general!
