Yorktown has had plenty to celebrate in its annual meetings against Mahopac. The rivals square off again today at 4:30 p.m. at Yorktown’s Charlie Murphy Field. (Photo by Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com)

Virginia beat Syracuse 12-10 to win the NCAA men’s lacrosse title.

Bill Clinton was president.

“Stars Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace,” “The Sixth Sense,” “The Blair Witch Project,” “The Matrix” and “American Beauty” were among the most popular movies.

Lance Armstrong won his first Tour de France.

The last of the Checker taxis took its final ride in New York City.

“Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” “Friends,” “E.R.,” “Touched by an Angel,” “Law and Order,” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” were among the most popular TV shows.

The Yankees swept the Braves in the World Series for their second straight title and 25th overall.

The stock market broke 11,000 for the first time.

Two of the top 10 songs for the year were Cher’s “Believe” and Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ la Vida Loca.”

Yes folks, we’ve come a long way since 1999.

But one thing hasn’t changed.

Since 1999, Yorktown has managed to win its annual game against Mahopac every time.

The Indians’ last win in the series came during the ’99 regular season. (A win Yorktown avenged later that season in the sectional final.)

Is this the year Mahopac finally snaps that streak?

It could happen. After all, Yorktown has already fallen to a Section 1 team (John Jay) and is coming off a one-goal win over Putnam Valley. Mahopac already has a win over defending Class B sectional champion Somers to its credit.

That game was extra special for four-year starting attackman John Brandofino, who had never beaten Somers. Now Brandofino, who grew up playing in the Yorktown Athletic Club, has one final chance (barring a postseason rematch) of beating the Huskers.

Action gets under way at 4:30 p.m. at Charlie Murphy Field in Yorktown.

In another intriguing Section 1 battle, Somers plays at 2009 Class C finalist Rye. Last year, Rye beat Somers in overtime, but Somers was minus starting goaltender Chris Longo in that contest. Action starts at 5 p.m. at Rye’s Nugent Stadium.

In another big game, Putnam Valley, which beat Rye last weekend, plays at 2009 Class A finalists Lakeland/Panas at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeland High School.

Iona Prep, which picked up a big win this past weekend over Somers — its second over the Tuskers in three seasons — plays St. Anthony’s for the first time in school history at 4:30 p.m. at St. A’s.

Also at 4:30 p.m.: Chaminade faces Fordham Prep, Horace Greeley visits Byram Hills, Haldane hosts Croton-Harmon,  White Plains plays at Pelham at Glover Field, John F. Kennedy Catholic visits North Salem, unbeaten Arlington is at Ossining, Wappingers hosts Peekskills and Briarcliff is at Westlake.

The Connecticut slate is highlighted by a 4 p.m. game between Greenwich and host Fairfield Prep at Fairfield University’s Alumni Field and a 7 p.m. contest between longtime rivals Wilton and Darien at Wilton’s Fujitani Field.

Also at 4 p.m., Ridgefield plays at Bridgeport Central at Kennedy Stadium and Stamford intra-city rivals Trinity Catholic and Stamford meet at Stamford. Also in Stamford, Westhill hosts Trumbull on Westhill’s front turf field at 4:30 p.m. Unbeaten Weston hosts Notre Dame-Fairfield at 6:45 p.m. on its turf field.

After a huge slate of games in Long Island yesterday, especially in Suffolk, today is not nearly as eventful, but there are some good contests.

At 4 p.m., defending Long Island Class B champion Sayville hosts red-hot Comsewogue at Depot Street Field at 4 p.m. Also at 4 p.m., Mount Sinai visits Kings Park.

Northport visits Sachem East on Sachem East’s turf field at 5 p.m. Also at 5 p.m., East Hampton, off to a school-record 8-0 start, hosts Huntington.

Southampton hosts Westhampton and Babylon visits Bayport-Blue Point at 4:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., Rocky Point host Shoreham-Wading River and Miller Place plays at Center Moriches.

The Nassau schedule is very light with just two games: Kennedy Bellmore at MacArthur (7 p.m.) and Sewanhaka at Glen Cover (4:30 p.m.).

As always, be sure to post your thoughts and predictions on these matchups as well as any info on the scores and game details.

    DO WORK PAC

  2. JustAFan says:

Well lets see what kind of prep team we have this year. They usually start slow and get better as year goes on. Was that St. Anthony’s drubbbing a fluke? Have to think Greenwich is better than what they have shown so far. I think Darien crushes Wilton today. CT is down this year, Darien looks to be cream of the crop.

  3. Lax 123 says:

Gonna be dogfight at Charlie Murphy field.

  4. BlueWhite says:

Coincidentally, 1999 was also the last time Wilton beat Darien with the last of the Whitten era players. Given the trouble Wilton had with Brien McMahon it seems less than likely that will change tonight, have to agree with JustAFan on this one.

  5. sec3tonot says:

Is Interlicchio playing tonight vs Mahopac???

  6. Yound Warrior says:

Looking fw to seeing how Francia (W) and Matheis (darien) are adjusting to being the focal point. Wilton is learning just how good Peter McMahon was last yr as QB of that offense. Warriors will be much better by year’s end but right now I dont think their offense is crisp enough to score enough goals vs a very good Darien D…and better goalie in West.
Does Darien still have the very good FOGO from last yr? Wilton has struggled mightily in the last few mtgs in this aspect.

  7. reLaxin says:

    Ill take..
    Mahopac-10
    Yorktown-8

  8. BigBadBear says:

In a perverse sort of way, Y’town may be better off playing without KI…they will have to rely more on ball movement, than isoing their star player

  9. Kharas says:

    I’ll take
    Town 13-9 over Pac
    Chaminade 14-7
    Byram 10-7
    Croton 14-10
    WP Pelham no clue
Kennedy N. Salem. One team will win in OT. (The game is listed as being at Kennedy today. Schedule change?)
    Ossining 9-8 over Arlington
    Wappingers by 16
    Briarcliff 15-5
Assuming the games aren’t rained out, of course.

  10. LI Lax says:

For those who care, here’s my rundown of the playoff race in Suffolk Class A. 12 out of the 23 teams in the league make the playoffs.

    1. West Islip (8-1, 6-1)- Dominating win at Smithtown West yesterday keeps West Islip in the top spot. They’ve beaten the #4 and #6 teams here by considerable margins and appear to be getting stronger as the year goes on. Watch out.
    2. Ward Melville (8-1, 6-1)- Matt Kunkel came out victorious in his matchup with Kieran McArdle and the Patriots restored order by beating Connetquot 10-7, moving themselves back into the #2 spot. They get Smithtown West at home next Tuesday.
    3. Connetquot (8-1, 6-1)- A respectable loss to WM. The T’Birds still appear to be the biggest threat to the top two even after their undefeated season was ended. It’s going to come right down to the wire for the top three seeds.
    4. East Islip (7-1, 5-1)- The Redmen finished the Smithtown sweep with a 9-8 victory over Smithtown East yesterday. Despite their 16-9 loss to rival WI, high scoring EI can still be a dangerous team.
    5. Sachem North (6-2, 5-1)- The Flaming Arrows are still the only team to beat WI and they picked up a big win yesterday, pulling away in the fourth against Whitman.
    6. Smithtown West (5-3, 4-2)- Bulls were trounced at home by WI, but still remain one of the most dangerous teams in the county. Would not want to see them across from my team in the playoff bracket.
    7. Whitman (5-4, 3-4)- The WIldcats have the huge win over WM that puts them in this spot. They can beat anyone on any given day, but also have the ability to lose to anyone in the top 12.
    8. Smithtown East (4-4, 3-3)- These Bulls have lost to Comsewogue, WM, WI, and EI, teams with a combined three losses. No quality wins yet, but those will come.
    9. Floyd (5-4, 4-3)- Held serve against Pat-Med, 12-5, yesterday. They travel to WI on Friday hoping to boost their playoff stock.
10t. Sachem East (4-3, 3-2)- Plays Northport today, will decide the 10 and 11 spots
10t. Northport (3-4, 3-3)- Travels to Sachem East today…four losses are to Manhasset, EI, Connetquot, and Whitman, but no good wins.
    12. Bay Shore (6-3, 4-3)- Beat Middle Country yesterday…three losses are to top five teams, no wins over top 12 teams however.

    Just missed: Pat-Med, Hills East

  11. LI Lax says:

Picks for today in Suffolk Class B/C..it’s a pretty big day.

SWR 8, RP 7 (great local rivalry here, anything can happen)
Wogue 13, Sayville 6 (Sayville just doesn’t have enough to compete at the top of the league this year)
Hauppauge 14, Glenn 6 (Glenn the favorites in C, but doesn’t have enough depth against the top B teams)
East Hampton 8, Huntington 7 (two hour drive for the Blue Devils…I would have taken them if they were at home)
    ESM 13, Hills West 5

The one Suffolk A game involves my Northport team, and I’m taking them to win, 9-8, at Sachem East.

Bonus Pick: Pac 9, Town 8

  12. lax123 says:

Pac 12 Town 8 KI and Brando both go 4 and 2

  13. Old Rugger says:

Kharas yes schedule change 4:30 at Kennedy. This will actually be the first test of Savs game day coaching at Kennedy as it should be a very close contest. Its a pickem in my book.
Town 9 Pac 8 in OT (Home field Adv)
    Darien 11 Wilton 6
SWR 11 RP 7 (RP down year)
    LP 10 PV 9
St A’s and Chaminade very big
    HG by 2 over BH
    Wappingers 19-1
Briar C 16 Westlake 4 (Westlake one man show at this point)
Arlington v Ossining interesting game 2 teams looking to move up the ranks no common games hard to pick here. Arlington bigger school with a Town coach I’ll go with them by 3.

3 best sect 1 games today (as in smallest margins)
    Pac V Town
    PV V LP
    KC(JFK) V NS

  14. scooter says:

KI won’t be 100% if he plays. Probably better for the team if he sits this one out but knowing the rivalry between Town and Pac, I believe he will. Either way I like Pac by 3
    10-7

  15. Casual observer says:

pac by 3? bold scooter but i like pac winning this game as well. ill also take L/P over put valley by 2. have a bad feeling about IP on the island but they could always prove me wrong. joe, who ya got? good luck to all today.

  16. Lax Novice says:

To answer Yound Warrior, no, Cam Ross graduated. Darien is doing it by committee now, junior Brandon Coley being the primary guy. As far as the attackmen go, Matheis is thriving, working well with Gleason and Maybell. The sooner Wilton gets Matt Kobyra into the lineup the sooner they’ll be very good offensively.

    Good luck to both tonight.

  17. Frairsnation says:

Just a Fan- While the St. Anthony’s loss to Chaminade was not a fluke it was not at all representative of their potential. They, like everyone else, have a lot of trouble on that small field at Chaminade. Look out for them today they have a chip on their shoulder. Sundays game was cancelled by St. Joe’s (Philly School) last minute and they are hungry.

  18. ctlax says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Darien beat Wilton by as much as 15 goals today. WIlton is just not a good team this year. #2 & #22 are the only standouts who will be able to play with Darien.

  19. Indian J says:

    Town 9 Pac 8
    Darien 13 Wilton 7
    Kennedy 10 North Salem 8
    SWR 15 RP 8
    L/P 12 PV 8
    Greely 9 BH 7
    Arlington 10 Ossining 9

  20. Donna says:

    Any thoughts on. Somers Rye?

  21. grip n rip says:

Pac ends the drought today. They are playing up to their standards right now and I see them taking down yorktown.

    Pac 12
    Town 10

  22. Indian J says:

    Rye 6 Somers 5

  23. Syracuse says:

I like the Jets targeting a safety or defensive end Jared Oldrick in the first round of the draft tonight. Tannenbaum could move up, basically because he always does. Giants zeroing in on linebacker McClain.

Oh yeah, lacrosse. Hmmm … Early season gut-check time for Yorktown. I see Brandofino having a big day. Yorktown’s midfield will be key, as will play its transition game, which has yet to really get going.

Likely a one-goal game either way.

Somers bounces back today in a tight one.

Whomever gets Berry out of USC in the draft is the big winner tonight.

Joe, if you need help with scores, let me know.

    Enjoy the games people.

  24. LI Lax says:

    Cuse,

You mean Berry out of Tennessee, or Taylor Mays, from USC?

  25. laxingonli says:

Joe– How do you think the LI teams St. Anthony’s, Chaminade and Manhasset will do Saturday.

  26. Syracuse says:

    LI Lax,

Right, I mean Eric Berry, safety out of Tennessee. Taylor Mays out of USC would not be a bad alternative, but Jets will need to move up considerably to get either. Expect them to fortify secondary, get pass rusher early.

  27. Curious says:

Is anyone giving updates on the pac vs. town game?

  28. Sec1 says:

Town 9 Pac 1 half, KI 4 Porcelli 3 Remy 1 Ty 1, total domination

  29. lax9999 says:

ytown 9 pac 1 and its only halftime!!!! KI has 4 cant be stopped!!!!

  30. Curious says:

    seriously?

I thought it was going to be a much closer game than that to be honest…

  31. Syracuse says:

Yorktown is Jekyll and Hyde’s evil offspring

  32. asdiid44 says:

13-6 ytown Interlicchio has 5 cant be stopped!…

  33. Old Rugger says:

North Salem 6 Kennedy 4 Sloppy game

  34. Lax4Fun says:

Does anyone know the Final of Town Pac,? I know Town was up big early, How did KI play. Cusw what are your thoughts on Town Flyers game later this week. Do you see anyway Town can win.? I saw them against WM and they played well until 4th qtr against JJ they should have on(IN my opinion) and GC crushed them. Let me know what you think.

  35. Lax4Fun says:

Cuse how do you see Town Chaminade game. Ill be away this weekend.

  36. Syracuse says:

    Lax4Fun,

Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Anyone who think they understand this Yorktown team is probably grasping at straws. Maybe Mahopac is overrated. I really don’t know. I “think” Town can hang with Chaminade (St. Anthony’s is probably a different story entirely), but who really knows? Maybe the game against Garden City and too-close-for-comfort effort against Putnam Valley was the wakeup call this team needed.

I think, ultimately, picking Yorktown in big games is probably as risky a proposition as picking against them, provided the opponent not be truly elite — like St. Anthony’s or West Islip or someone like that. But Yorktown-Chaminade? I don’t know. Yorktown-Darien? I’d lean Darien but you never know. Yorktown-Wilton? Flip a coin.

The only thing I do know is loss to Jay aside, I think by the end of sectionals Yorktown will be where they usually are — in the state semifinals against a Class A team they’ll lose to by 6-10 goals.

  37. Syracuse says:

SCORE UPDATE: Arlington rallied for 10-9 win over Ossining (nice job by you, Indian J). Admirals battled back from 8-6 halftime deficit. More later …

  38. Syracuse says:

SCORE UPDATE: Yorktown 14, Mahopac 7 final

  39. Syracuse says:

SCORE UPDATE: Arlington 10, Ossining 9 final … Admirals fight back from 8-6 down at half. …

  40. Sec1 says:

    Town 14-7

  41. truth says:

    Rye v Somers update?

  42. Truth says:

Truth, Somers beat Rye, 10-4, I wasn’t there though. Anyone have stats?

LP vs. Somers should be a good one Saturday at Somers. I have to give the Rebels a slight edge. What does everyone think??

  43. D-PAC says:

Disappointing game on all levels. Week layoff hurt. Town jumped up 4-0 before the seats were warm. Pac very lackluster in first half. Couldn’t win a face-off. Inexperienced Pac D didn’t showed up today. I knew they wouldn’t have shut them down, but thought the offense would have scored more goals to help. Can’t score if you don’t have possession. Pac has no transition game. Rely too much on iso’s with Brandofino. Town offense constantly moving. Putnam Valley sliced through Town’s D. Pac had the speed, but didn’t attack from up top. Pac helped Town with the stall trailing by 6 or 7 with & minutes to play. Not aggressive to the net and too much time throwing it around the horn. Need to wake up against Northport who is beatable for them.

  44. laxified says:

Hey Friarsnation, the small field had nothing to do with St Ants getting waxed by Chaminade. Other than Schreiber, Chaminade was and is better than St Ants at every position.

  45. HV Lax says:

Big win for Byram Hills 5-2 over Greeley. Talk about an enigmatic team. Greeley has a big 2nd-half lead vs Somers and loses to JJ by just 3 yet loses to a Byram team that lost to Somers 13-4.

  46. League 3A says:

Some major parity going down in the section’s best league.

    Byram Hills 4, Rye 3

    John Jay 11, Rye 10

    Somers 10, Rye 4

    John Jay 13, Greeley 10

    Somers 10, Greeley 9

    Byram Hills 5, Greeley 2

    Somers 13, Byram Hills 4

Best team looks to be Jay, followed by Somers, then Byram, then Greeley, and a good Rue team is in fifth place.

  47. ref88 says:

Town was all over Mahopac all game long….They had no answer for Interlicchio…Ytowns offense looked very nice…Town is such a confusing team!!! Never know which team will show up….Im taking them by 2 over Chaminade this weekend out on the Island…Should be a good one..

  48. Joe Lombardi says:

Manhasset, unranked in the preseason, has soared to the No. 4 spot in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse National Rankings, which were released today. Manhasset is preparing for Saturday’s showdown against five-time Connecticut state champ Darien at the Lead the Way Lacrosse Day of Heroes Tripleheader at St. Anthony’s. Be sure to check the poll question to weigh in on that one. Here’s the link to the new rankings:

    http://insidelacrosse.com/rankpoll/hspower/2010-04-22-0

  49. HV Lax says:

Who ever stole my name above me, nice going. that’s very mature of you. You and your byram fans can celebrate your victory.

The Greeley v. Byram game was pretty gross.
Greeley’s leading scorer Danny Leventhal was in for maybe 5 minutes of the game. Senior attackman Nathan Becker seemed to be having a lot of stick problems and could not put one in the net.
Greeley played better, they had so many more chances to score, many were right on the crease. But when it comes down to it, they didn’t finish, and they lost.

They are not happy right now. They are now a wounded animal, they are looking for blood. I can guarantee we will not see the same Greeley at the next game vs. Byram.

  50. Sec1 says:

    8-3 L/P end of 3

  51. LAXman says:

Cuse you do know that Chaminade demolished St. Anthony’s earlier this season? I wouldn’t call St. Anthony’s truly elite, at least not top 10 in the nation, they almost lost to Somers their first game and were overrated coming into the season. The only games Chaminade lost to were West Islip and Manhasset, both by very small margins. If I had to rank the best teams on the island now I’d say:

    1. West Islip – I think losing their first game is excusable, have been dominant since
    2. Manhasset – Haven’t lost yet
    3. Chaminade – Very close to beating West Islip and Manhasset and beat St. Anthony’s by 6
    4. Garden City – Crushed Yorktown, undefeated against NY teams, have been slightly inconsistent though having to go to OT against South Side and beating Smithtown West by only one
    5. Ward Melville – Loss to Whitman was surprising but otherwise have been consistent.

I’d put St. Anthony’s on here if they beat a really good team, but that hasn’t happened yet. Other thoughts: Impressive win by Yorktown today I think they’re finally starting to show their potential maybe Garden City loss was a wakeup call? Honestly, I don’t think they have much of a chance against Chaminade though, it may be a blowout. Also, I’m a JJ guy, but to see them a spot above Chaminade in the latest IL rankings is a complete joke. JJ didn’t play to well against Horace Greeley they better step it up against Corning East this weekend.

  52. laxified says:

ref88- you must be kidding, Town couldnt beat Cham or any other good team on LI this year. They aren’t a confusing team. They beat teams that they are better than and so far that has been what 4 ? And 5 aint coming Saturday, not even close

  53. nyslax75 says:

Town had a nice win today..Interlicchio looked great (not hurt)..He always has his way with Chaminade (didnt he score 8g’s last yr in the game?) and it certainly will be an interesting game this Sat on on the island for the Huskers.

  54. young warrior says:

    7-3 darien after 3
    Was 3-2 half

Wilton had chances in first but can’t win face offs to save their life.

  55. laxified says:

8 goals against Cham last year. Yeah right….always has his way ? In case you don’t know, Ranagan isnt here anymore

  56. I-95 says:

Closer than I thought Young Warrior, but thanks for the update. This does not bode well for Darien against Manhasset. I may have to change my vote in the poll. I voted for the Wave by 1!

  57. Syracuse says:

    LaxMan,

My bad. I got my teams reversed.

  58. nyslax says:

Byram possessed the ball more than 70 percent of the game, sorry HV Lax you’re wrong

  59. HV Tool says:

    HV Lax,

Byram had four more shots than Greeley, 9 more ground balls, and plenty more time of possession. See you on your home turf. 😉

  60. John FANagan says:

    Thoughts on the ‘Town game…

The annual story of Yorktown beating Mahopac cointinued today.
Yorktown jumped off to a great start, winning from what I remember 9 of the 10 first faceoffs. The possession obtained by the Huskers is what let them jump out to their early controlling lead. Interlicchio looked phenomenal and the ‘Pac defense had no answer. KI looked like he raised his level for what was the first league game of the season for the Huskers.

Overall, Yorktown played great team ball. Besides the isolations to KI, Town kept the ball hot, moving the ball around the perimeter and creating openings for their fluid and always-moving (at least today) offense. We don’t know what Yorktown team to expect on Saturday vs Chaminade.

Koelsch had a great game in goal. Came up with some big saves when it seemed like Mahopac was hinting at a late comeback. Yorktown played a lot less passive today with some big hits laid out by the defense- particularly Porcelli on Brandofino. You could tell that Mahopac had the quickness to play a good attack game, but they couldn’t execute. Instead they realied on the iso to Brandofino.. and sometimes Bernabo and Thompson- but it was too predictable.

  61. Joe Lombardi says:

Well, well, well, look who’s back. With the big Yorktown win comes the return of John FANagan. Welcome back! And thanks for the updates on the game today while I was in Long Island.

  62. byram shut up says:

Ok hv tool, ya big tough guy, happened to be at the game and we mustve watched different games…possession was in greeleys favor if not, it was at 50 percent. Groundballs and hustle went to byram…shots, or at least quality of shots went to greeley…faceoffs went to byram…goaltending byram…refs were definitely infavor of greeley…just keep your yaps shut and you better be ready to play in a couple of weeks

  63. John FANagan says:

Haha Joe- it’s good to be back. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into this weekend on the island.

I will most likely be there this weekend so the blogging shall continue

  64. Syracuse says:

    John FANagan,

    How is The CROP?

  65. OT says:

    HV Lax

don’t know what game you were watching, but Greeley was lucky the score was as close as it was. HG shots at least in the second half were mostly from outside, soft and right at the goalie. Byram was the team shooting from the crease or at least in the opinion of the ref in the crease as they waved off goals.

Right now, HG has to be considered the underdog in every game left that they’ve got left but the one against Harrison. They could easily end up winless in league and 2-13 on the season.

So … please stop with all the talk about how great they are and how they can play with anyone … at least until they actually beat someone.

  66. truth says:

Manhasset will win by 5+ goals

  67. ctlax says:

    Dairen- Wilton score?

  68. John FANagan says:

The CROP is nowhere near as impressive as it was last year. Being the leader of The Crop, it’s a little upsetting knowing that I had a big year to live up to and unfortunately haven’t kept it up to par. But I blame it on not only myself but the people in the Crop. Don’t have the same group of kids that are as enthusiastic about the game. But we’re trying our best…

You guys, halftime score was Arlington LEADING 8-6, not down.

Fun game, nice crowd, lots of end to end runs, tough play in front of both goals. Some good rips by both teams. Clean game with just a few penalties.

Back and forth first half. Ossining up early, but Arlington got going on a man up and it was game on.

Arlington had a chance to run away with it, owned time of possession in second half, but O defense firmed. Good job by them. Need to convert more against Yorktown and others coming up if we want to hang with the big dogs.

O missed a lot of scoring chances, but moved the ball well and can get shots in a h-u-r-r-y. Much better than expected (no disrespect) and they have some studs. McCulloch had 3 or 4 and a bunch of assts. Goalie is really good. They’ll be fine and one of their dads told me their schedule finally starts to lighten up soon.

Albany Academy and then Yorktown! Lots of work to do.

Thank you Ossining you were excellent hosts as usual and your field or should I say ‘stadium’ is by far the best around!

    Darien 9-3
West was outstanding in goal for them
Darien D very good – Wilton offense needs movement
Good job by Holland (Wilton) on Matheis – good job on face offs by Darien

  76. bwlax says:

Wilton looked much better today than against Greenwich, and their goalie played fantastic. But Darien, as was the case vs. Nisky and Conestoga, played much MUCH better in the second half. They also finally have fixed their problems at the faceoff X. Also of note, Darien lsm #16 left the game with an injury (shoulder?) and did not return. Tough loss, as from what I have seen so far this year he has been great, but the Wave had two other guys who filled in very nicely (they seem to be remarkably deep on defense this year).

    Land wins 11-6

  78. bwlax says:

On another note, I think those who are saying that Darien will lose by 5 on Saturday based on this performance are underestimating just how close the Darien-Manhasset rivalry has been this last decade. It seems every year is a one goal game (except for 08). Just look at last year — a stronger Manhasset team (they are good this year but not THAT good) beat a weaker (IMO) Darien team by just 1 goal. Besides, I think a 6 goal win at Wilton under the lights is comparable to St. Anthony’s 8 goal win at home last week vs. Wilton.

    OT-

lets see how you kids at byram do against JJ. I will call it now, i will put money on it, that you guys get absolutely trampled.

byram had no shooters. every shot was off some garbage rebound or a fast break. the goal that was waved off was the right call. check the rule book. YOU CANNOT LAND IN THE CREASE which the kid obviously did….

lets just see what happens when they play on greeley’s “turf”. i hope you guys dont whine and make excuses about playing on grass when you get whooped

KI did score 8 last yr but it was againts St Anthonys, Town is not the same team as the last few yrs. Also not sure what your going to get game to game so far this yr, as for sat they will have to play close to perfect to have a chance in this game, I see Chaminade by 5, but being it’s Town you never know. As for KI, Laxcifer he does miss Ranagan talent wise and growing up next door to each other, KI when he right he is a fine talent, but this is not his best yr so far. He needs to stop trying to do it all at times and find the open man when he is double and triple teamed, and work on his agilty. But his hands and shot are fine.

  81. laxxer44 says:

I think we are just starting to see Interlicchio adapt to not playing with some of his boys from last year…KI when he wants to get to the goal and score can simply do it…Theres not many high school defenders out there that can stop him but if they wanna make it back to the state semis this year the other guys around him need to stop up and contribute like they did in mahopac for the most part….Ytown is too unpredicatable this year but im gonna go out on a limb:
    Ytown-11
    Chaminade-8

Interlicchio leads the way with 5g’s, leiberman has 3g, porcelli 1g, mclee 2g

Anyone have any info. on the Somers,Rye game?

  83. Elephant Man says:

Kieran Donohue had four goals for Somers vs Byrum. He has had a big year like Deiana. Those two have stepped up while most other teams have been focusing all their defensive energy on Petre and Pfiffner leaving them with opportunities they are taking advantage of…

  84. woodstick says:

Chaminade has two of the beast (best) defensemen in the country Urbank and Ehrhart. Both are 6’3, 220+ and very skilled, Both D1 bound next year- G-town and Maryland respectively. People forget to mention them because Chaminade has such a good offense. No one is going to have there way with that D.

  85. slaxie says:

Did McCormick play for Rye?? Ad who did the scoring for Somers??

  86. inlax says:

McCormack did not play for rye vs somers

  87. Just sayin says:

    Darien 10, Set 9
    St. A’s 11, Wilton 4
    Chaminade 9, Town 5
    JJ 8, Corning East 6
    Somers 9, LP 8

  88. slax says:

    donohue 4 g, petre 2g, deiana 2g, pfiffner 1g, emanual 1g for somers

  89. John FANagan says:

Pumped for the game tomorrow vs. Chaminade.

    Hmmm here it goes…

Everybody knows that Chaminade is looking to shut down KI tomorrow.. and they have the size on defense to do it… However Yorktown will adapt and play an offense that is fluid and active. KI will step up because he loves the challenge especially against Chaminade. All 4 years of Kevin has been a big time player and these big games are always marked on his calender.

Schuldt had his breakout game vs PV on Tuesday so look for Mabus or Lieberman to add to the box score.

Chaminade is the unanimous favorite to go home with victory, but I think Yorktown has the horses to step up. There are a lot of “ifs” that ‘Town has to execute in order to make this happen- but I have a strange feeling they show up. Porcelli and Schuldt win faceoffs, the defense along with Koelsch play a solid game, and some role players step up… Town wins a close one, 10-9.. maybe another overtime goal for KI 😉

    KI with 3 and 2, Lieberman 2 and 2, Mabus 2 and 2, McLee 1, Mariano 1, Schuldt 1 and 2, Porcelli 0 and 2

I’m neither a kid nor am I from Byram, so you are 0 for 2.

It is remarkable for someone whose team is 1-7 and may not manage the 4 wins necessary to qualify for the sectionals to talk so much trash about the teams they lost to.

  91. Beachlax says:

LILAX, way up there at comment 12, you said blue devils would take EH if not for the 2 hour drive. Guess what, EH has a 2 hour drive for every away game. Let’s not make excuses, as EH has not. . EH 15 – Huntington 10

  92. LI Lax says:

I said that I would have taken Huntington if they were at home…not that Huntington would take East Hampton if they were at home. Congrats to EH for the win…it may or may not have been different if the game were in Huntington…not an excuse, just a fact.
